Open and Fill by default

Is there a way to change the default behavior on a suggested login item to be Open and Fill rather than Autofill? For example, if I'm on a site (let's say google.com) and I'm logged in with Account-1 and I now want to have another tab on google.com but logged in with Account-2, while still on the existing tab for google.com, the list of suggested login items in 1Password will show Account-2 as a suggestion along with any other logins that match the domain, and clicking Autofill does nothing because you're already at the site. So, to log in with a second account in a new tab, I either have to open a new tab manually, click 1Password from that new tab, and locate the login item I'm looking for, or I can still be on the existing tab, see the suggestion for Account-2, and use the pane on the right in the suggestion window to scroll down to the website field to then click Open and Fill.

It would be nice to just make Open and Fill be the default behavior, or allow users to choose what they want their default behavior to be, but leave it normally set to Autofill for new installs.

  • Hello, @SyberCorp. Thank you for reaching out.

There isn't a way to change the default behaviour on a Login item to always show Open and fill instead of the Autofill button.

May I ask if you have two different browser profiles, or are you signing into two different Google Accounts (or any account) in a single browser session? Can you tell me more about the use case for this feature, why this would benefit our customers, and how you'd imagine the feature to work? The more detail we have regarding the request, the more information I can include in a feature request.

No, I don't have separate browser profiles. I'm referring to using multiple accounts on the same service within a single browser session/profile.

Sure. For example, there are multiple sites within my company that are all on the same domain that I access, some of which use dedicated logins. Because of the way that the default domain matching works, logins for all of the sites show up in the login suggestion list. As such, the 2nd+ site I want to access requires either opening a new tab first and then re-searching 1Password for the appropriate login item, or finding it from the suggestion list on the already accessed site and then choosing Open and Fill on the URL in the entry rather than Autofill on the suggestion entry (because the option changes dynamically on the suggestion entry depending on whether you're already on a tab that matches the domain for a login item).

Now, for internal/company sites that have their own specific A record, this isn't as much of an issue because I could potentially change the domain matching to be exact match only, but is still an issue for the sites that use the same login entry (i.e., a single login entry with multiple URLs listed).

Where this is more of an issue, is for sites that do not have their own A records to be able to do exact matching, such as when you manage multiple clients that all use the same service but under their own respective accounts, and their portals are only separated by login info.

The suggested item entries already have the ability to dynamically change their buttons based on your active browser tab - I'm basically just asking for a way to stop that behavior and statically set the button to always be Open and Fill, regardless of what your active tab is.

  • @SyberCorp,

Thank you for providing additional details. I've passed on your feedback to our product team for further consideration.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.
