1PW8 Firefox & Chrome no longer connect/unlock/communicate with 1PW 8 macOS app

Hi all. About a month ago, a family member (My not so tech-savvy Mother) noticed that anytime she would unlock her 1PW8 app, it would no longer communicate with her browser extensions.

She'd have to unlock the Firefox & Chrome extension separately, even if she’d already unlocked the main macOS 1PW8 App. And vice versa — if she unlocks any of the extensions first, she still has to unlock the main 1PW 8 App.

I've been trying to solve this myself, but am unable to. 1PW 8, Firefox, Chrome and all 1PW extensions are all up-to-date. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the macOS app + all extensions etc.

I have looked through the Firefox & Chrome extension logs/diagnostics from her laptop (MacBook Air 13" early 2014 running Big Sur with 1Password 8).

One major red flag is that it seems for some reason her extensions are trying to connect to 1PW7: “Looking for desktop app com.1password.1password7” /. “Desktop app port disconnected. Error: No such native application com.1password.1password7”.

Which is strange since she doesn't have or has never had 1PW7.

This is a family account, and I'm having to try to get this resolved for her since she doesn't know what to do. As a side note, I have none of these issues, but I'm on macOS 15.

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! I already emailed support hoping for some help, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask here as well.

    I'm sorry that your family member is running into trouble when unlocking 1Password. The behaviour that you've described (the desktop app unlocking separately from the browser extension) isn't correct and the team will be able to help get this resolved.

    I see that you've emailed in the logs and one of my colleagues will send you a reply via email as soon as they've finished reviewing those. To prevent having the same conversation in two places at once, I'll close this thread.
