Setting up passkey results in disappearance of 1PW item in app
I had a login item in 1PW for Discord. I set up a passkey in 1PW and chose to update my Discord item in 1PW. The 1PW item then disappeared from the app and I finally found it by manually going through the archive (search did not work).
My questions:
1. Is this standard behavior when setting up a passkey through 1PW?
2. Is there a way to have the search function also search the archive?

I'm sorry that you ran into trouble when saving a passkey for your Discord login. That definitely isn't the correct behaviour, when you save a passkey to an existing item in 1Password that item should remain active and not archived.
Can you tell me a little more about how you saved the passkey? Which browser did you use and on which device? What version of 1Password do you have installed? Are you able to reproduce the issue if you save a passkey again?
Is there a way to have the search function also search the archive?
You can search through the Archive in the desktop app by opening the Archive from the sidebar and then clicking the Find button:

Thanks for your reply and for the tip on searching the Archive. It seems it is a separate search from the Main window, and I can see the reasoning for that, although it threw me last night.
I saved the passkey by choosing "Update item" rather than "Create new item". (I'm not sure I remember those options accurately.)
Browser: Arc 1.61.2
Mac: 14.6.1
1P: 8.10.44I haven't attempted to reproduce the issue yet, being a bit gun-shy till I know what might be going on.
