1Password does not activate in username field on Alberta.ca account

The Alberta.ca Account site recented switched to a two-stage sign-in process when using your email or username.

https://account.alberta.ca/

On macOS, 1Password displays and works correctly in both the Email address or username field and the Password field which appears after clicking the Continue button.

On my iPhone, tapping in the Email address or username field does not activate 1Password, so this must be typed in manually. However, tapping in the Password field on the subsequent screen does activate 1Password, allowing me to fill in my password.

Any idea what’s going on here?

  • Hello @Grant Hutchinson! 👋

Thanks for reaching out. Two-page login pages (where the username and password are split across two different pages) seem to cause iOS Password AutoFill some trouble when it comes to detecting username fields in third-party browsers on iOS like Vivaldi. Password AutoFill is the iOS feature that 1Password relies on to detect and fill logins in browsers and other iOS apps. Since 1Password only provides the data for the Password AutoFill experience this isn't something that we can directly improve and the behaviour will be common to all password managers that use Password AutoFill.

I recommend reporting the issue to the Vivaldi development team so that they can investigate why iOS Password AutoFill isn't detecting username fields on certain pages in their browser.

I've tested the account.alberta.ca webpage in Safari and suggestions do work there so you might consider using Safari for that website instead. We also have a browser extension for Safari which offers a similar filling experience to what you're used to on the desktop: Get to know 1Password for Safari on your iPhone or iPad

    I hope that helps. 🙂

Thanks for the additional information, Dave.

I’ve reported this issue to the Vivaldi team.

It’s odd that account.alberta.ca is the only site I’ve run across that has this particular issue.

Let me know if there's anything else that I can help with from the 1Password end of things. 🙂
