1Password BETA causing problems with VPN on Private Tab

So far I had to go back to the production extension.

Basically if I have my VPN extension active (NordVPN in this case), and am on a private tab, the browser won't open any website, it will remain on a constant loading. This ONLY happens on Private Browsing, and as soon as prevent 1Password from working on Private Browsing, everything goes back to normal.

The production extension doesn't cause this problem, so something new on beta is doing it.

Browser: Brave Browser
VPN: NordVPN Extension

To summarize, 1Password Beta + NordVPN + Brave Browser (Private Tab) = Can't browse

    Update: the same happens with Prod Build. It worked for half a minute ๐Ÿ’€

  • Hello @loggor! ๐Ÿ‘‹

    I'm sorry that loading webpages doesn't work when using 1Password in a Private window alongside NordVPN. So that I can investigate further, I'd like to ask you to reproduce the issue and save a console log: Save a console log in your browser

    Attach the console log to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

    You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

    I think our company is also affected by the same issue.

    In our case, the most common setup is Chrome + the Nordlayer (Business tier of NordVPN) extension + the 1Password extension (not beta).

    Symptoms: When trying to connect to the gateways, the error "can't connect to the proxy server" occurs. Sometimes, if you are lucky enough, you can connect, but then none of the websites are working.

    We noticed the first signs of the issue last Friday, which correlates with the extension update date. https://releases.1password.com/b5x/stable/#changelog

    Here the VPN connects, but then you can't browse. If I either disable the VPN or remove 1Password, it works just fine.

  • @zygis and @loggor

    Our developers are testing a potential fix in the latest nightly version of 1Password in the browser. Would you be able to give that a try and let me know if it resolves the issue:

    If you still see the issue on the nightly then we'll need to investigate further. I look forward to hearing from you.

    @Dave_1P The Nightly build acts the same. There is a low success rate for connecting to "gateways," but once connected, websites do not load. Everything goes back to normal instantly once 1Password extensions are disabled.

  • @zygis

    Can you try the latest nightly version of 1Password or the latest beta (8.10.52-14)?

    If you still see the issue there then please send an email to support+forum@1Password.com and include a link to this thread. After emailing in, you'll receive a reply from BitBot, our friendly robot assistant with a Support ID that looks something like [#ABC-12345-678]. Post that here, and I'll be able to locate your message and make sure it's gotten to the right place. ๐Ÿ™‚

    @Dave_1P
    I tested beta 8.10.52.14 and nightly 8.10.52.15, and both versions worked as expected.

    I also double-checked the main/production extension. The issue is still there and none of the other factors interfere with the results except 1Password extension versions. The browser was restarted each time when switching the extensions.

    So it is pretty safe to say that new versions in development are a solid fix.

    @zygis

    Thank you for confirming that the fix included in the latest nightly and beta versions of 1Password in the browser resolves the issue for you. ๐Ÿ™‚

    If anyone does still see the issue when using the latest beta version (8.10.52-22) then please let me know.

    I don't want to add fuel to the fire here, but I have observed the same problems with Surfshark. And someone described the problem with ProtonVPN in the Brave Browser forum.

    https://community.brave.com/t/incognito-browser-wont-load-any-websites-w-protonvpn-extension/576126/16

    When can we expect the next 1Password stable browser extension?

  • @5lacker

    I'm sorry that you're seeing the same issue with other VPN providers. Just to confirm, do you no longer see the issue if you try the beta version of 1Password in the browser: Use 1Password beta releases

    I look forward to hearing from you.

    Only at the first start. After I closed Brave and started again no side was loading in incognitomode.

    Yes, with the Beta everything works fine in incognitomode.

    Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if I understand your two replies, can you clarify whether everything is working with the beta now? Or is the beta still giving you issues?

    Sorry for both of my posts. This happened because they did not appear immediately as a message, but had to be checked by an admin first. So I could no longer edit the first post.

    The first browser start in incognito mode worked as desired. Pages could be loaded via the VPN client. After restarting the browser, this did not work at first. The first page needed a short moment before it started.

    With the beta extension, however, everything seems to work again as before.

    Is there already a rough time window when I can switch back to the release cycle?

    @5lacker

    The fix will be in the next update to the stable version of 1Password (8.10.52) which we just submitted to the various browser extension stores today where it's going through the review process. ๐Ÿ™‚

    @Dave_1P sorry for the delay, I was on a trip. It seems to be working on prod for me atm.

  • @loggor

    Thank you for confirming that you no longer see the issue in the latest stable version of 1Password in the browser (8.10.52). ๐Ÿ™‚
