Enhancement/Bug: List too long for updating existing password

I was updating my password at the CA Franchise Tax Board. After navigating to the right page, entering my old password, and accepting the suggested new password, 1Password popped up a dialog asking if I'd like to update my existing password for this site. However, I was shown a long list of possible 1Password entries to update. Even though the correct/desired entry included a reference to the current complete domain (webapp.ftb.ca.gov), I was shown all 1Password entries for anything with "ca.gov".

I'm part of my own family's account (with six members) as well as my parent's account. We each have any number of web accounts ending in "ca.gov" (e.g., dmv.ca.gov). In all, there were just way too many to appear in the popup window, with some being pushed off the bottom of the window. I couldn't scroll the window with my mouse--when I tried that, the underlying web page would scroll. This happened even if I clicked in the popup window in order to make sure it was active and at the front of the event-handling chain. I finally found that I could scroll down by highlighting succeeding entries using the down arrow until I got to the right one. But after that, I couldn't find an "accept/ok" button. I couldn't use the down arrow trick for that. Instead, I ultimately found that I could use the Tab key to get the "accept/ok" button to scroll into view.

Simply being able to scroll would help fix this UI issue. However, it also seems to me that 1Password is being too generous with the list of entries it's displaying. The one I wanted--the one with the 100% matching domain--was down near the bottom. It seems to me that it should have been placed at or near the top, since the website was webapp.ftb.ca.gov and the 1Password entry had exactly that in a URL field. 1Password could then show entries with "ftb.ca.gov", then "ca.gov", and then even "gov" (those ending with "gov" showed up in the main 1Password UI when I searched by "ca.gov").

1Password Version: 8.10.48
Extension Version: 8.10.48.25
OS Version: macOS 15.0.1
Browser: Arc 1.65.0

  • Hello @keith.rollin! 👋

Thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry that you're unable to scroll the 1Password prompt when you have a lot of saved items. This is a known issue that our development team is aware of and hopes to release a fix for soon. For the time being, try this workaround:

    1. When you are suggested to update an existing login item, click New Item instead.
    2. Next to the item, click the Edit button.
    3. In the pop-up window that appears, switch to Update existing and choose the item you'd like to update there.

I recommend that you set the autofill behaviour for these items to "Only fill on this exact domain" so that they're only suggested on that specific domain. You can read how here: Change where a login is suggested and filled

Let me know if you run into any issues.
