Feature request: Support scanning loyalty cards now that Stocard has been shut down

Now that Klarna has decided to shut down Stocard there are a lot of users like me who used to use it and now are looking for an alternative. I'm a long time 1Password user, but 1Password has never supported Stocard's use case, which is really simple scanning of barcodes or QR codes for loyalty cards, and then making it really easy to show those same codes at a later time. Now would be a great time to support this, before another product steps up to fill the void. Klarna is supporting keeping the cards in its app, but it is obviously a secondary feature that will likely need attention Klarna won't give it. They don't even support logging in without a 2FA code to your phone number, which is horrible for travelling and exactly to sort of thing I like to stay away from by using 1Password.

The ideal feature in my mind would allow scanning or manual entry of the cards, exactly the same as one-time passwords already work. When displaying the code to scan the brightness of the display would be increased to 100%. This could be an additional field for the given login, but ideally there would also be a view where loyalty cards could be selected to cut down on the noise. Below "Favorites" is the obvious place to me, to make it very easy to filter. I have hundreds of logins on 1Password, and it was always nice how I could select the card without much scrolling on Stocard, since usually I would be in a rush at a check out when I wanted to use it.

The existing rewards program feature doesn't really cut it, since it requires manual entry and isn't scannable as a result of that manual entry. I don't know of any in person loyalty cards that only support manual entry and online only loyalty cards are by definition always associated with a login, so the feature is a bit redundant. If I have a frequent flyer number or similar I tend to just add it as a single line to the login, which would appear to be a better system anyway.

Thanks so much for all the work you've already done! 1Password makes my digital life so much easier.

  • Hello @saveloyaltycards! 👋

Thank you for the feedback and request! I can definitely see how it would be convenient for 1Password to store and display your membership cards for you by scanning a barcode. I've filed a feature request with the team.

For the time being, you can use the Membership item in 1Password to store membership information. You can add the codes as an attached file to the Membership item: Save important files in 1Password
