How can I remove all items from my vault and save them in a backup vault

How can I remove all items from my vault and save them in a backup vault. I want to put everything in a backup vault and bring back what I want.

I am also interested in archive and could probably do this by deleting everything and having it go to an archive and bring items back from there. However, I'm concerned because I think after awhile items in archive are deleted. I need a longterm back up vault where I can bring the ones I want back over a good time.

I can I figure out what vault 1password is using by default.

Creating new vaults to save a group of items is also confusing. The seem to interact with each other. I have lost things by moving them to another vault, deleting the main vault and having items disappear from the vault where I had saved them.

Is there somewhere that this is all explained?

Has 1password stoped providing any support? I can't find any way to communicate directly with 1password humans.

  • Hello @kenoli! 👋

Thank you for reaching out! You can always find support either by posting on this forum or sending an email to support@1Password.com 🙂

Can you tell me a little more about what you mean by "backup vault"? What are you trying to do? Are you trying to create a duplicate backup copy of your items? Or are you trying to organize your items by moving some of them to another vault so that you don't see them in your Private/Personal vault?

I am also interested in archive and could probably do this by deleting everything and having it go to an archive and bring items back from there. However, I'm concerned because I think after awhile items in archive are deleted.

Items in the Archive are not deleted unless you choose to deleted them. You can read more here: Archive and delete items

I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm trying to move my items somewhere secure so I can delete everything in my main vault. There is to much there including duplicates and more. I would then like to remove all my items from the main vault so none are there and then when I need one, go get it from the backup vault and move it to the main one. There were a bunch of items in the archive "vault" but not all of them. I created a vault and moved everything there. I checked and everything was there. I then went to the main vault and deleted everything. Then I went to t vault where I had saved everything. It was empty. The archive had a lot of items but not everything. It made me realize I don not understand vaults. At this point, I'm just confused and not sure what items I have left. I don't think everything that was in the main vault is in the backup vault, though a lot is. I tried to recover my old vault using Time Machine but to my chagrin found out it had not been operating since July. Where can I learn how vaults work. They are obviously not independent of each other. I can't figure out where my main vault is.

Thanks for the reply. Each vault is independent from other vaults. You can move or copy items from one vault to another using the steps in this guide: Move or copy items

I would recommend that you use tags to organize the cleanup that you've described. You can create a tag called AUDIT and add it to all of your items. Then, when you've decided that a certain item is one that you wish to keep you can remove the AUDIT tag to let yourself know that this item is one that you've already looked into: Organize with favorites and tags

If the duplicate items are exactly the same and in the same vault then you can also use 1Password's Watchtower tool to clean them up:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on Watchtower in the sidebar.
    3. Click on Show Items under Items with duplicates.

That doesn't sound right. Each vault has it's own Archive, there is no independent "Archive vault" included in 1Password by default. Is it possible that you moved items to the Archive of your Personal/Private vault and then deleted them from there? Or did you create an entirely new vault called "Archive vault"?

If you've accidentally deleted an item less than 30 days ago you can restore it. To restore a deleted item, select Recently Deleted in the sidebar in the 1Password app. Then choose the item and select Restore Item.

    Thanks,

Tags --I couldn't figure out how to create a tag in 1passwoed or how to tag an item. Ironically, somehow in the past I creared some tags. I have no recollection of how I did this.

Thanks for the reply. You can create a tag in 1Password by following these steps:

    1. Open and unlock the 1Password for Mac desktop app.
    2. Edit an item that you'd like to add a tag to.
    3. Scroll down and click +add tag.
    4. Enter a name for the tag and press enter.
    5. Save the item.

Going forward you'll see that tag listed in the sidebar. Let me know if you have any other questions.
