Feature Request? TOPT (Time based One Time Password) refresh interval choice between 30 sec or 60

So this goes beyond the Mac version but putting this here for now. Some sites I feel like might have issues with 30sec TOPT refresh because if it doesnt work the first time the second time works. My working theory is that some sites refresh in 60 second intervals so codes generated on the half second are not recognized.

If someone has a solution to this or some feedback to my thoughts feel free to reply but if it is a 30/60 second based issue then it would be nice to override the default with a 60 second code.

  • Hi there @joeSh

It's up to each website how long their TOTP token is valid, so we can't change that in 1Password. 30 seconds seems to be the industry standard – short enough to refresh frequently, long enough to let you enter it manually if needed.

If you're finding that codes are only valid during certain timeframes, that would suggest that your system clock is off by a few seconds or so.

☞ Check https://time.is/ on your device(s) to make sure the system clock is accurate to the second. If it isn't, adjust it in your device's settings, or choose to have it set automatically.

    Hope that helps! :)

PS Not that it's directly related, but based on your footer, you're due for an update for the main 1Password app, the 1Password browser extension, and macOS:

Updated my app and shot an email to the website developer(s). I wont expect the 1p 2fa to have custom refresh timings any time soon so ill just shoot support emails to app/site developers to voice concerns/annoyances.
    Thanks for your response!^
