Secondary Password issue for specific website

edited November 8 in 1Password in the Browser

I'm trying to convince 1Password to fill in a secondary password for a university login here: https://vpn.iu.edu/dana-na/auth/url_default/welcome.cgi. I get the same behavior on iOS or using the browser extension in Chrome on macOS, but I primarily access this site when activating VPN on my phone, so asking here.

The web page has two password fields

  • Label: Passphrase, id: password, name: password
  • Label: Secondary Password, id: passwordSecondary, name: password#2

I want my passphrase (university password) to go into the first password field (id password) and I'd like the secondary password to be set to "push" to activate 2FA on my phone. When I try to manually save the form with these values, it grabs my username and sets a single password to "push", ignoring my actual password/passphrase.

As it stands, I have username and password set in 1Password and it places the password (my passphrase) into both fields, so I have to manually clear the secondary password phrase and type in "push" each time.

I also tried having username & password set to my login credentials and creating an additional password field in the 1Password login with the label "secondaryPassword" (or "Secondary Password"), but neither worked.

I assume the word "password" in the secondary password label is throwing it off. Any tips on how I could get 1Password to automatically put the password into the password/passphrase field and "push" into the secondary password field?

Thanks!

  • Hello, @bmamlin. Thank you for writing in.

You can add custom fields to your Login item so that 1Password can autofill additional password fields. Here's how:

    1. Locate your Login item and click Edit.
    2. Click + add more and select Password.
    3. Enter your password below this custom field and delete the default password under the username field.
    4. Click + add more and select Password.
    5. Edit the title of this password to passwordSecondary and enter "push" as text below it.
    6. Click Save.

    Here's a screenshot for reference:

    I hope that helps.

Ah. Thanks. I had tried the additional fields, but hadn't tried leaving the password empty. Unfortunately, while that works perfectly using the chrome extension in macOS and in the Safari browser on iOS, it does not work when using 1Password within ivanti Secure Access Client on iOS with these settings. Only the username gets filled, while both password and secondary password stay blank.

I can only assume that 1Password is communicating through the ivanti Secure Access Client app instead of directly with the website embedded in the app, which limits my options. I see people have reported issues with using 1Password with ivtanti's mac app, so maybe this is just similar lack of 1Password support in ivanti's mobile app.

I've tried a few variations of "password" to get something (anything) to fill in the password field in ivanti's Secure Access Client app, but no luck. I guess using the actual password and having to manually replace the secondary password with "push" each time is the best I can do at this time. Thanks for your help!

  • @bmamlin,

You're welcome. I'm glad that worked using 1Password in the browser on macOS and iOS.

For the Ivanti Secure Access Client app, the iOS Password AutoFill is responsible for identifying fields for suggestions and filling in your credentials, and 1Password only provides the data to be filled. If iOS Password Autofill isn't filling your password into the app, then this likely means the app developers have not labelled their fields correctly. I recommend contacting the app developers to share this feedback with them. You can contact them through the App Support link in their App Store or their customer support channels to give them your feedback.

I hope that helps. Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.
