Feature Request: Add OAuth as a category for creating new items.

I want to store OAuth Client credentials which contain a ClientID, ClientSecret and optionally a TokenEndpoint and Scopes. None of the available categories seem to fit thus i was forced to use "Secure Note", but it doesn't feel right.
Is it possible to add a category for OAuth (and keeping in mind the different OAuth grant types)?

  • Hi there @MichaelCoenen

Have you thought about a Server item? You can remove all the default fields and just add the ones you want. It'll also prevent cross-contamination with your actual Secure Notes.

Let me know what you think. :)

    Hi @GreyM1P

Removing all the default fields from a server item is indeed an option. But it's basically a secure note with a different icon and would "contaminate" my Server Items.

  • @MichaelCoenen Ah, if you have a fair few Server items already that might be a factor, yes. What about an API Credential item? (one of the lesser-known ones, in my view)

You can't remove or rename the username or credential fields, but you don't have to complete them, and empty fields won't be shown unless you're editing the item.

ClientID could map to username and ClientSecret to password if you wanted, or as I say you can bypass those and just add custom fields for what you need.

You can also use API Credential items in the Terminal, if that's useful: 1Password Shell Plugins Developer.

Same as with Server Items, I already use API Credentials quite a lot for actual API Tokens.
There's no real good fit for OAuth Credentials, hence why i started using secure notes, i don't use them for anything else in that vault which makes it easy to filter on category.
Thanks for the tip regarding the plugins though.

  • @MichaelCoenen That's understandable. If you have a bit of a presence in many different item categories, that'll make sense.

Would tagging those Secure Notes with something like OAuth be helpful, if you're not doing that already? Then you could find them easily by searching for tag:OAuth or choosing that Tag in the sidebar.

If you're using 1Password Business, you can also create custom item categories: Create custom templates for items in 1Password Business

That feature is in beta, and might well change, but could meet your needs in this case, it sounds like.
