Documents and Attachments
Hi
Did something change about attaching files to items versus linking to an item.
I know you can create a standalone document, attach a document directly to an item or link to a related item but what has confused me is I've just identified a group of items with missing related items.
Is there a best way to work? My use case were jpegs of the pages of our passports. There were standalone items but I'm sure they used to be linked to the passport record item. It is these that seem to be missing.
Is this a change I've missed or something I've done wrong? Is there away to identify other items with missing related items?
Thank you for your help.

Hello @iwaddo! 👋
I'm sorry that you're running into an issue with related items. Is it possible that you've moved some items into different vaults? If you did then the related item link will be broken and you'll see a message like the following in the affected item:
This is due to the fact that item links can't be maintained when moving items between vaults. You'll need to make sure that both items are in the same vault and then re-link them: Link related items in 1Password
My use case were jpegs of the pages of our passports. There were standalone items but I'm sure they used to be linked to the passport record item.
Rather than uploading them to 1Password as separate Document items, I recommend attaching those JPEG files directly to the item. Item attachments are maintained even when moving an item between vaults.
If I misunderstood then let me know. 🙂

It is highly likely I've moved items between vaults. When you move an item you are not automatically taken to the moved item so it is not immediately obvious a link has been broken. It would be helpful if there was a warning.
I am now attaching documents directly where it makes sense to do so.
I've just realised you can link to more than a document though I cannot immediately think of a use case.
When looking at a document, or any item, is there a way to see if it is linked to something?
Is there a way to identify items with broken links?Thank you for your help.

Thanks for the reply. The only way to identify an item with a broken link is to open that item and look for the "Missing Item" message (see my screenshot above). The message will tell you if that item has any broken links.

That's a good idea and I've passed it along to the team. Thank you for the feedback!
