How can I actually hide some vaults?

I have a couple of personal vaults I don’t want accessible on my work computer.

In 1Password 7, there was a "Show in All Vaults" option. In 1Password 8, the closest alternative is creating a Collection and excluding those vaults, but:

  • All vaults are shown in 1Password's sidebar.
  • All vaults still appear in the Autofill popup window.
  • If I select an item in the Autofill popup and choose Open in 1Password, the app opens with "All Vaults."

Please consider bringing back the Show in All Vaults option or adding another way to fully hide certain vaults from a device.

    Hello @dserodio! 👋

Thanks for reaching out. If you create a collection and then switch to using that collection in the 1Password app, then you shouldn't see vaults that you've excluded from that collection in the sidebar:

If I select an item in the Autofill popup and choose Open in 1Password, the app opens with "All Vaults."

There shouldn't be an "All Vaults" option in the 1Password 8 desktop app, do you mean that you see "All Accounts"? If you see "All Vaults" then it is possible that you're viewing items in the browser extension or in the 1Password.com web app, both of which don't support collections? Are you able to provide a screenshot as long as it doesn't contain any sensitive information?

I look forward to hearing from you.

By "All Vaults" I mean my username is selected in the top left of the app, and not the collection I had previously selected

Hi @Dave_1P , did you understand the issue I mentioned?

  • @dserodio

Thank you for the screenshot. Just to confirm: did you previously select a specific collection in the main 1Password desktop app (as shown in your screenshot) or in Quick Access:

    image

Quick Access and the main 1Password app can have different collections selected and you'll need to select the desired collection in both places if you'd like to use the same collection in both Quick Access and the 1Password desktop app.

If you did select a specific collection in the desktop app and then the selection reset back to your entire account then are you able to reproduce the issue again? Are there any specific reproduction steps that you can send me so that I can try to reproduce the same behaviour on my end? When I select a specific collection, that collection stays selected.

Thanks for the screenshot too, I didn't know it was possible to select a specific collection in Quick Access. The icon displayed in Quick Access was the 1Password icon, and not the icon for a collection or the "all vaults" collection (my username), so there was no indication that this is a clickable widget.

BTW, is there a better name for this selection that I'm calling "all vaults", so that I can better explain my interactions?

I have a "work" collection, that includes both the Personal and Work vaults, which are the only ones I want available on my work computer.

Even after selecting this "work" collection in Quick Access, if I choose the open in the 1Password app, it opens with the "all vaults" selected in the app, exposing the items in the vaults I don't want to be available on my work computer.

    These are the reproduction steps:

    1. Open 1Password app
    2. Choose the "work" collection
    3. Open Quick Access
    4. Choose the "work" collection
    5. Type github to search for it
    6. Choose "Open in 1Password"
    7. 1Password app opens with the "all vaults" collection selected

Note: I see that there's no way to change the icon for the "Personal" vault nor the "work" collection, so the same icon is used for 2 different sets of items, which is confusing.

Note 2: The tooltip for the "change collection" control seems to be broken (blank):

@Dave_1P I don’t mean to nag you, but I’m not sure if I should’ve tagged you in my previous reply to ensure you’d be notified.

Thank you for providing the screenshot and reproduction steps, that's very helpful. I can confirm that I see the same issue: when I choose the "Open in 1Password" option from Quick Access, 1Password opens to either your entire account or to "All Accounts" if you have multiple accounts added to the app. I've reported this to our development team and have opened an internal work item to have this fixed.

Note 2: The tooltip for the "change collection" control seems to be broken (blank):

This is a known issue that our development team is aware, I've added your report to the existing work item open for the issue.

Regarding the issue with collections, I don't have a great workaround to provide that you can use until the issue is fixed. If you just need to view an item then you can choose the "Open Item in a New Window" option. Aside from that, you'll need to manually choose the correct collection again whenever the view resets to all of your account vaults after opening an item from Quick Access. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
