1Password AutoFill options on macOS
Comments

I just noticed on my Mac with Sequoia 15.1.1 that 1Password doesn't show up in the list of usable apps for AutoFill & Passwords / AutoFill from (see annexed image). Only Passwords (from Apple), RoboForm (which is installed, by I used only in the past and keep as a backup) and OneAuth are given as options. Why doesn't it recognise 1Password as a possible app for these functions?

Hello @crisrich58! 👋
Thank you for reaching out. 1Password doesn't use the "Autofill & Passwords" feature in macOS System Settings so you won't see it listed there. Instead you can fill and save logins using either 1Password in the browser (our browser extension) or using Universal Autofill:
If you don't see 1Password in your browser then try the steps in this article: If you don't see the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar
Let me know if that doesn't work. 🙂

Hello @Dave_1P, thank you for the reply. 1Password works most of the time for me, but sometimes I have to copy and paste the username and password into applications. Also, when I want to create new passkeys for some websites, it's not possible to use 1P to scan the QR code that is shown on the screen.
Would this work better if 1P did use "Autofill & Passwords"? Why doesn't it use this feature (I just learned about it yesterday and don't really know how it works in detail)?1 -
Thanks for the reply. 1Password doesn't currently use macOS AutoFill because we instead support two different filling methods, the browser extension and Universal Autofill. Since we've developed both of these filling methods, we have the ability to fix issues and make improvements as needed. However, I'll let the team know that you'd like to see 1Password support macOS AutoFill in the future. 🙂

I'm sorry that you run into issues when filling your login credentials in applications. Just to clarify, have you tried to use Universal Autofill to fill your login credentials and it doesn't work? Are you able to share the name of those applications?
Also, when I want to create new passkeys for some websites, it's not possible to use 1P to scan the QR code that is shown on the screen.
You can scan the QR code using the camera app on your mobile device and save or sign in using a passkey saved in 1Password on that mobile device. You'll need to make sure that 1Password is installed on your mobile device and that you've setup saving and filling on that device:
- Use 1Password to save logins and sign in to apps and websites on your iPhone and iPad
- Use 1Password to save logins and sign in to apps and websites on your Android device
However, if you're signing in with a passkey to a website you don't need to scan the QR code. You can use 1Password in the browser to sign in using the saved passkey: Save and sign in with passkeys in your browser

I would like to upvote this thread because I think for a lot of people the consistency between iOS and Mac would be really helpful. I am an IT professional, so I can figure stuff out pretty quickly, but for all of the people I assist and support (in my personal life, not professionally), I would love to see this added consistency to function the same as it does on iOS.
