Cannot select and copy the value of Secure Note in the app

In the 1Password app, when I select a Secure Note the value of the note is not selectable,
so I cannot copy the value to paste into a field in the browser. I thought that used to work,
but I may be mistaken. I currently have to edit the Secure Note in order to copy the value.
I can select and copy the Title of the secure note without editing the note, but not the value.
Please consider making the value of a Secure Note selectable so that it can be copied.

  • Hello @Dave47! 👋

I'm sorry that you're unable to select and copy a Secure Note from the 1Password app. Do you happen to have markdown turned off? There's a known issue where notes can't be selected when markdown is turned off, are you able to select the notes if markdown is turned on?

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Linux.
    2. Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and click Settings.
    3. Click General.
    4. Turn on "Format Secure Notes using Markdown".

Our developers are currently testing a fix in the beta version of the app. If you have markdown turned on and still see the same issue then let me know.

I turned on "Format Secure Notes using Markdown", and I can now highlight and copy the value of a
secure note. Thank you! When I hover over the Password field of a Login item in the app, the word Copy
is displayed and I can just click to copy the value of that field. I wonder whether you could implement the
same thing for a secure note.

Notes are longer than other fields and so I would expect that it's rare for folks to actually need to copy the entire note that often, in most cases people want to copy a portion of the note instead. And, if you do need to copy the entire note, then it can be selected and then copied.

If you'd like to store smaller amounts of text then you can add a Text field to the item and store it there. Text fields do include the one-click copy functionality.

Adding a Text field solves my problem. Thank you.

  • I'm happy to help! 🙂
