iOS / iPadOS Keyboard Text Replacement not Working for 1Password password
Ok, I know the answer is probably "that's not secure", however.....
I want to have a short text shortcut to automatically enter the 1Password password when required for signon. The requirement is for my wife (don't ask 😜)
For example, enter 1pw and have the full password automatically filled on the signon screen. I have set this up under Keyboard text replacements but it does not work for 1Password. Is this being blocked by design? It works properly outside of 1Password.
Thx

Hello @kvozel! 👋
Thanks for reaching out. My (very predictable) response is indeed to confirm that it's not secure to store your account password as a keyboard shortcut. Anyone with access to your device would be able to use text replacement to access your account password and unlock 1Password. Your account password should be something that is memorized and not stored anywhere else (unless it's done securely). Your wife can create an account password that is memorable and easier to type in using this guide: How to choose a good 1Password account password
Alternatively, I recommend turning on biometric unlock so that the account password isn't needed each time that your wife unlocks 1Password:
- Use Face ID to unlock 1Password on your iPhone or iPad Pro
- Use Touch ID to unlock 1Password on your iPhone or iPad
For example, enter 1pw and have the full password automatically filled on the signon screen. I have set this up under Keyboard text replacements but it does not work for 1Password. Is this being blocked by design? It works properly outside of 1Password.
This won't work since iOS doesn't allow text replacement in password fields on iOS. Let me know if you have any questions. 🙂
