Transfer / copy vault items to guest - How to?

Hello, I am a webmaster for a volunteer organization and I have a vault of all of the passwords associated with managing the assets of the organization. I am stepping down and someone else is taking over.

We both have 1password licenses, mine is a family one, theirs is an individual one. They are NOT part of my family. I have added them as a guest to the vault and they can see the items, but he cannot copy them into their own vault.

How can I transfer the vault, items or a copy of them so they is able to keep a copy without them residing only in my vault? Idealy I could export the vault, in an encrypted format and transfer it to them so they could import it into their 1Password.

Thank you.

    Hello @skorpyo! 👋

Thank you for reaching out! Inviting the other person as a guest is indeed the approach that I would suggest. You can read more about inviting guests here: Share with guests in 1Password Families

Your guest should be able to copy items over to their own vault. If they're running into issues then check the following:

    1. Make sure that you've shared the vault with their guest account and that they have the appropriate permissions for the vault in question: Create and share vaults
    2. Ask them to use the 1Password desktop app, not 1Password.com in the browser, to move the items over:

If they still can't copy items to their own account using the desktop app then can you let me know what happens when they try?

Hi @Dave_1P , Ok, so it sounds like we're close to getting this right :-) . I will be having a meeting with them later today and maybe we'll be able to work through this. Perhaps they're using the browser version instead of the app and that's the issue. If we do run into more issues I'll follow-up. Thank you for confirming we're on the right track!

  • Sounds good! If you and your guest continue to run into issues then let me know and I can help further.
