Strange new browser window pops up

When I try to fill in a login from 1Password using Edge for Mac, a new window pops up which states "1Password is trying to unlock the browser extension." When I dismiss it, I get the normal 1Password extension sign in window. When I fill it in with my password, nothing happens except it goes away. Is this a phishing attack?!?

1Password Version: 1Password for Mac 8.10.54 (81054022)
Extension Version: 8.10.55.2
OS Version: macOS 15.1.1
Browser: Edge for Business browser for Mac V. 131.0.2903.86

  • I'm glad that enabling the menu bar option resolved the issue for you. 🙂

Thank you, Dave! Checking that box fixed the issue.

  • Hello D_M_H! 👋

Thanks for reaching out. That looks normal to me and what I would expect to see if you have both 1Password in the browser and the 1Password desktop app installed. When app integration is working properly, 1Password in the browser will use the desktop app to unlock rather than using its own lock screen. This enables you to use features like Touch ID and Apple Watch unlock if you choose to do so and unlock both the desktop app and the browser extension at the same time.

When I fill it in with my password, nothing happens except it goes away.

Is it possible that you have the menu bar icon turned off? Try the following:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Make sure that "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" is turned on.

Then try to unlock 1Password in the browser again.
