Removing a family member from a family aubscription

Heya!

About 2 months ago, I needed to remove one of the family members to have a spare slot for my girlfriend. I sent the family member telling them I'll remove them, but then I thought I need to search first how it works so I don't make a mistake.

When I did, I figured out that if I remove them, all their data will be deleted? That doesn't even make sense, can't it prompt them to download their data first maybe after the removal? Or automatically convert the account to a personal account with expiry so they have time to move their data over? Or prompt them to download or subscribe? Why lose the data and completely delete the account? I know the account was made when I sent their emails an invite but I was with them physically and it's hare to visit that family member to help them move their data, so now I have to wait and use something else for my girlfriend until I have time to visit them just for that sole reason.

I really don't like that, it doesn't make sense and it's impractical, their data is theirs even if they're part of my family subscription, I don't think I'm supposed to have control over their access to their data just because they're part of my subscription and I'm an admin. Even if I went crazy and decided to remove someone they shouldn't lose access to their data, this is really really bad and really isn't logical in any way.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to say I'm making a suggestion or if it's something critical that needs to be resolved, but I guess both apply here.

Thanks.

    Thanks for your response @ag_tommy

I hope it does get addressed, it's causing me an issue since I have to visit the family member to move their data so i can invite my girlfriend afterwards which is forcing me to use something else for her until i do ans that family member doesn't live close at all.

One thing that may help is you're not capped at 5 users. You can go over that initial 5 if needed. I have 7 in my family including my eldest sons wife. That may be an option for you. There is usually a small fee for the additional user.

Depending on your region and taxes if should be ~$1.50 a month.

    • You may need to switch to direct billing to accomplish this.

I wrote a comment and it doesn't show nor in drafts for some reason. Anyway, I was saying it's not a sensible solution because I want to remove someone and can't because of their lack of technical knowledge and can't add someone else, if I wanted to add both I wouldn't mind paying extra.

  • Our spam catcher caught it. Sorry about that.

I totally understand. I just thought it might be a possible answer you'd find helpful. I've shared your excellent feedback with the team.
