1Password7 keeps opening itself while I'm browsing

I have both 1Password7 and 1Password8 installed on iOS devices and MacOS laptops and I'm the manager of our family account. Right now I am stuck where 1Password7 insists on opening itself when unprompted and foregrounding itself on MacOS. It's happening across multiple laptops.

Ideally I have only the 1Password8 extensions enabled in my browser for the 98% of my passwords. That used to work fine. But now when I go to unlock the extension, it insists on opening 1Password7. I close it, and then try to click on the login field and it reopens. I close 1PW7 again, manage to login, start to browse (to something that doesn't need 1PW at all) and then it pops up again. It is making browsing impossible. The only fix is to disable both 1Password extensions and manually copy and paste things over.

I'm sure I will be asked why I have both versions. I am not comfortable putting my most critical financial logins in the cloud. When 1Password8 forced everyone to go the cloud and to a subscription model, it was promised that 1Password7 that we already paid for would keep running. I use it with the WLAN option to sync between my phone and laptop and have no cloud presence (best feature ever - you should have never killed it).

This used to work - it only broke recently, maybe the Sonoma -> Seqouia upgrade? Anyone know why or how to prevent it?

I know it's a slightly weird setup - but I refuse to put criticial financial accounts in 1Password8
