How can I create a local-only vault?
I'd like to be able to create a secure password database on my linux Mint laptop. I do NOT want it to be synced with the 1Password online servers. I know there are other password managers that do this, but I'd really like to use 1Password if if I can.
When I create new vault I am not given the option of whether to sync it online or keep a local-only version.
It looks like there's lot of development going on with the Linux version right now, which is awesome. I suspect the ability to create a local-only vault in 1P will appeal to other more security conscious users.
1Password Version: 1Password for Linux 8.10.56 (81056028)
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: Linux Mint 22 Cinammon
Browser: Brave

Hello @claven! 👋
Thanks for the question! When you create a vault using the 1Password app, that vault is encrypted and synced to your 1Password account. It's not possible to create a vault that only exists on your local device.
Can you expand a little more about why you're looking to create a local-only vault? While 1Password did offer local-only vaults in the past, we've moved on from them since they were less secure than 1Password account vaults and weren't able to provide the advanced features available through your 1Password account.

I’d like to create a vault on an air-gapped Linux laptop I use for cryptographic key generation. But there are other options available for that. Just thought I would ask about 1P (since I’ve been with you guys from day 1).

Thanks for the reply. There aren't any plans to bring back local vaults and you can read our founder's thoughts on the topic here. The team is exploring a potential self-hosted version of 1Password that might fit your needs. You can register your interest here:
