Feature Request: Button or menu option to force a sync

I've been using 1Password for years & years now and this has been an issue with all your previous versions, and is now also an issue with your latest version (v8). Can we please, please, please get a button or menu option that allows us to force a sync.

I've just logged in to a new site, and as expected, 1PW has prompted me to save the login credentials. I had to click on the Save button in the browser popup multiple times before the details were saved. I wanted to check that the login was actually saved properly but when I open my (mac) 1PW app, the login is not there. When I login to the 1PW site through my browser, I can see the password sitting in my list of passwords. I have absolutely no way to force a sync at the moment so I have no idea how to get the password synced down to my other devices.

This has been an ongoing issue for years! On previous versions, you'd sometimes add a password on one device and then it wouldn't sync down to all your other apps on your other devices. Now I find that even with your latest version, the same thing happens.

I am begging you, can we please get an option to force a sync!!

OS Version: macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 (23G93)
Browser: Firefox 133.0.3

  • Hello @ahortin! 👋

I'm sorry that you're not seeing the same items on all devices. When you create a new item (or edit an existing item) using 1Password on one device then you should see that item on your other devices almost immediately. If that's not happening on your devices then it means that something is going wrong and I'd like to investigate that further.

The next time that you don't see an item or change on a device, I'd like you to generate a diagnostics reports so that I can look into this further and find a solution:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

    Please send the entire file.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

    Hi @Dave_1P,

Thanks for your reply. I'll make sure to do that if/when it happens again. It doesn't happen all the time but I know it has happened before, after I made the switch to 1PW 8.x.

In the meantime, providing us with an option to manually force a re-sync would help a lot. Even quitting the app and re-opening it, didn't resync the missing login. It only seemed to re-sync after editing and re-saving the login on the 1PW website, which is frustrating as hell.

Thanks for the reply. Locking and then unlocking 1Password manually should force the desktop app to check for updates. You can do this by right-clicking on the menubar icon and then clicking Lock. Let me know if that doesn't work. That being said, I've filed a feature request for a dedicated button on your behalf with the team.

The next time that you run into the issue generating and sending in a diagnostics report would tell me more about the cause of the problem.

@Dave_1P I did try quitting the 1PW app and then re-opening it, which required me to unlock the app again, but that still didn't sync the login down to the app. After it still hadn't appeared after about 20 mins, I then tried editing and resaving the login on the 1PW website (within my browser), and it was only then that it seemed to sync the login down to my 1PW app.

Thanks for filing that feature request as well. It's much appreciated.

That definitely doesn't sound right. When the issue happens again then please send in a diagnostics report and the team and I can investigate further. 🙂
