Issues with 1Password on Mac/Safari

The version of 1Password living in my Safari browser is killing me. Everything is wrong:

  • I turn on my computer in the morning and log into 1Password 7. Then I open Safari and assume I am logged into 1Password, but I am not, and have to log in again?! Why??
  • 1Password sometimes lets me authenticate with my Apple Watch. I wish that was 'always', but okay. 1Password lets me set a grace period: don't require password within 20 minutes (etc). But in the Safari?! There is no grace period! There is no Apple Watch settings! I always have to type my password, again and again and again! WHY??
  • Autofill is almost never!! UGH! For my work email, it's always - sweet! It even fills in the OTP automatically! But for other websites - including my most frequently visited - it not only doesn't autofill, but WORSE: it covers up the little 1Password suggestion box with a a "would you like to type one of your emails here?" box. Okay, maybe that's Apple asking me, but it SHOULDN'T ask me that. I would like my username and password to autofill.

So bad. Please help.
It's not like this on my (also Mac) laptop at home.

Just updated to 1Password8.10 and the behavior in safari is the same.

This should be autofilling. But when I click on the field ...

I can't even GET to a "fill in the password that 1password knows" option!!!!

  • Hello @MelanieIs! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into problems with 1Password for Safari. 1Password 7 for Mac, and the built-in older version of the browser extension for Safari that came with 1Password 7, are no longer supported. I'm glad that you've upgraded to 1Password 8.

The screenshot in your latest post shows suggestions from the built-in password manager in Safari, not 1Password. You'll need to install 1Password for Safari separately from the App Store, you can use this link:

Once 1Password for Safari is installed, make sure that the built-in password manager is turned off: Turn off the built-in password manager in your browser

You should then see suggestions from 1Password in Safari when you click into a username or password field on a website:

Let me know if that doesn't work.
