Dropbox sync broken in 1Password 4.0

I updated to version 4 from the Mac App Store.
Now when I edit anything in 1Password on my main Mac, the Dropbox icon does not indicate any synchronization, and my modifications are not synchronized to my other devices (iOS and a second Mac).
Mac Pro, OS X 10.8.5
My database has been loaded well since first launch (it's obviously in my Dropbox folder).

Any idea?

I tried on my second Mac (MacBook Pro) and it works well on this one.
So it seems that something is broken with 1Password on my Mac Pro...

  • Hi @Raca339,

Can you open the main 1Password app on the Mac Pro and go to the 1Password Menu > Preferences > Sync, tell me what you see here or provide a screenshot.

Just to make sure, can you drop a random file into your Dropbox folder on Mac Pro and tell me if it shows up on your MacBook Pro?

    Hi @Raca339,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting 1Password and Dropbox synced up. Please double-check that your main Mac is using the same Dropbox account and that 1Password is pointing to the same Dropbox location.

I take it back, sync works. But the date on the 1Password.agilekeychain file (really a package) is not being updated in the finder's Dropbox window.

I have this issue on my iMac and Macbook as well. iCloud sync works but I cannot enable or disable dropbox sync. It works perfectly on my IOS devices

Sorry for answering late: I was busy at work.

    @ Megan

Of course I'm on a unique Dropbox account! :)

To help you understand: I was using 1P 3.9 and everything was ok, then I upgraded to 1P 4 and sync doesn't work anymore.

    @ MikeT

I'm using Dropbox sync for many things on a day-to-day basis, including shared folders with friends. It is working fine right now.

Here is the required screen capture (ironically the picture file is on my Dropbox...):

Much more interesting for you - I guess - are error messages in my syslog such as these:

Another error message in my syslog:

To anticipate your question: my OS X account is administrator. And I have checked that I have read & write permissions on the ".1password.keys" file.

I'm also not getting syncing with Dropbox. I've tried creating a test entry and then checking my iPhone and this entry is not appearing even after manually making the app sync with Dropbox. There was a momentary message that there might be a problem with Dropbox servers but that disappeared. I've checked another of our computers that's still running the previous 1Password version but perhaps the two don't sync. My newly created entry didn't appear there either.

I got it working now. I went back to preferences and changed syncing from dropbox, disabling syncing. Then I just reselected Dropbox and that seemed to get it working. Synced to my phone as well as other computer on 1Password 3.

That was really irking me because I really rely on 1Password and I have to sync through Dropbox so I'm glad for both of us.

    Hi, all.

With @pappjo's help (thank you!) it looks like (nearly) everyone here has resolved their Dropbox sync issue. Please let us know if you haven't and we'll be glad to help.

    In another post I mentioned:

1Password 4 only supports using one sync service for each vault and iCloud Sync is currently limited to the primary vault (but may be expanded in the future).

There's a bit more about it in that topic.

    Hello Oversoul;
I've experienced the same troubles-long time 1PW user, simply upgraded to 4 and now neither Mac nor iOS apps sync w/dropbox. I have almost 1,000 items in there and don't want to mess around with 'try this' solutions. I've seen a lot of that in the many, many forum posts on the topic of MAS 1PW4 not syncing with DB. The keychain is almost 100MB and I'm on a DSL connection, so to remove and re-sync would take a few hours.
I rely on 1PW daily. That ABits hasn't come out with a clear statement on this despite the multiple threads and no response to my customer service email from four days ago, is distressing.
Clearly AB has their hands full with this upgrade. Please post if there is a solid solution endorsed by AB for this issue.
I'm on MAS 1PW4, Mac OS 10.8.5, Dropbox syncing same as it ever was for a long time but no syncing occurring. I don't like extending days and days into usage without syncing occurring. It's like not having backups. The fear of losing changes I made to 1PW and not being able to recover them.

  • Hi @Davidn,

The majority of the Dropbox sync issues are due to the sandboxing issues bought up in the Mac App Store version of 1Password. They don't appear in the website version. We've submitted the 4.0.3 update to fix the syncing issues but the 4.0.3 update has another sandboxing issue where it doesn't properly refresh the app's data listing when the Mac app gets new changes via Dropbox. This is being investigated to be fixed in the next update.

If you'd like to avoid the sandboxing glitches that we're working on resolving as fast as we can, I'd recommend switching over to the website version. This article will explain how, and you can email us your proof of purchase at MAS to get a free website license at support+forum@agilebits.com.
