App icons not correctly syncing from Mac to iOS
As the iOS app icon database was dependent on contributions of people here sending .icns files to the Agile server, I found at the if I change an App icon in 1Password it is not correctly displayed on 1Password iOS.
Can somebody give me status of how (rich) app icons are synced ?

Hi @mgshoutman,
When you said you changed the App Icon, do you mean you added your own icon to the item?
If yes, that is because the iOS app needs to be updated to support the custom icons. That'll come in 1Password 4.3 update and we're working as fast as we can to get it out.

Yep I changed the icons on Mac by dragging them in the icon window. Reason: there is a difference between app icons for different versions and current icon database is not very complete.

Thanks that extra info, @mgshoutman. Like @MikeT mentioned, those custom icons you add to 1P4 items on your Mac require iOS app support (currently scheduled for its 4.3 update) to be synced with it.

@sjk FYI these are not "custom" app icons but app icons of previous (read: different) versions of software licences.
That said, I can't wait for iOS 4.3 :)

Hi, @mgshoutman. Thanks for the extra info.
You'd mentioned "I changed the icons on Mac by dragging them in the icon window", which makes them custom icons. And, to clarify, you're doing that to differentiate previous/different versions of software licences because they're inaccurate for icons pulled automatically from our database?
Since your original issue was about icons not syncing (awaiting/requiring 1P4 iOS 4.3) I was confused by your followup icon database issue (which would require something different).
Am I understanding this any better now? :)

@sjk, this app icon issue is all so complicated. I uploaded many icons to your FTP server but found out it was a hassle to differentiate between apps with different app icons for different versions. There is also no "rule" to differentiate except adding a version number to App name etc. and then upping the correct icons.
As said on Mac all is fine, but the custom app icons I created on the Mac are not synced to iOS probably because 4.2 is still dependent on the FTP icns database only ...

Hi, @mgshoutman.
To be honest, I don't recall when it was possible for users to upload custom icons to "our" FTP server unless, perhaps, it was only by special arrangement?
Improvements for 1P4 icon support (custom and rich) will be made, like the forthcoming ability to sync between Mac and iOS. I don't have any other information right now.

Are you kidding ? I was a beta tester for 1Password 4 for iOS and we go access to send icns. files. Therefore my special interest in app icon syncing.

Some of us were given access to anonymously upload icons. These icons were for software only.
One of the agile team "Alex" is dedicated to this project now. He's been a little swamped as of late but has been pecking along at some of the long list I sent him here while back.
The icon you altered in 1Password will not sync. That altered icon would need to be uploaded to the server. Then it would be pulled down from the server to the appropriate category for both Mac and iOS versions. Custom icons were added late in the life on 1Password 4 due to public demand. So I am not 100% sure the ability sync to the server will be or is included in its current incarnation. I kinda doubt it will be a sync back to the server as that may overwrite someone else's saved icon. I suspect a provision will be made for a special folder to be read from the sync folder on your Mac / iOS device. That way the data is local to you only just as it should be IMHO (keeps private things private after all). Thusly the iOS version would need to be updated to support custom icons. As I understand it currently all the icons are pulled from the server. Unless you manually change one on the Mac etc and at that time its Mac only.
To be totally honest with you I uploaded some icons to the server, here while back and they were missed during a recent convert session. Thats one of the reasons, I just complied a list and submitted it to Alex. If I had to guess and you made a change etc and uploaded it to the servers It was more than likely missed just as mine was. :(
Its not a major thing on my end as, Alex is handling it as fast as he can. It seems to have gone old school and is no longer automated. Probably due to the sheer volume of requests submitted etc. Sounds backward but there were some scaling issues which were encountered, with the automated process
I am not sure if Alex wants to have his email on the public facing forums. He would probably die in spam traffic. But Ill PM him and ask him to contact you. Please do keep in mind that it could take a bit for a reply. The entire team has been working some really long hours trying to fix bugs etc and I would say mine and your passion for icons, will be a little on the slow burner. :P

@mgshoutman
If you require an app/login icon to be synced onto our imageserver I can help you.
Do you have anything in mind right now?0 -
@TheA1ternative Not for the moment. I better wait for iOS version 4.3 to be released and than see what happens at iOS side :)

Bummer, as I experienced today, no custom icons are synced from 1Password 4 (MAS) Mac to 1Password iOS 4.3: http://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/16890/1password-4-3-not-syncing-custom-icons-from-mac#latest

Hi guys,
Just to be clear for everybody, there are two separate features, the Rich Icons and the Custom Images/Icons.
- Rich Icons: These are images that are hosted on our central image server that all 1Password apps can download from. It also include the custom .icns files we pull from softwares and also sent to us by our users, we upload them to our image service, which then serves it to everybody using 1Password. In addition, our image service pulls the favicons from the web sites to host it as Rich Icons. These images are not stored in your data file to keep them lightweight. 1Password automatically downloads it to store in the app's encrypted image cache.
- Custom icons/images: These are images that you manually dragged into your items, which then gets embedded into your data file. These are not related to any of the Rich Icons. These are the ones that have to be synced between 1Password apps.
@mgshoutman, the sync does work for custom icons but there are other issues there affecting the sync performance and the custom icons might not be showing up because of it. We've submitted 4.3.1 and waiting for Apple to approve it. Hopefully, once you install it, it should then sync the custom icons for you.

@MikeT: this is the problem with this forum: too many topics buried too far away: http://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/16939/bug-report-on-app-icon-appearance-software-licenses-section#latest

Hi @mgshoutman,
I'm not sure how that thread is related to not syncing the custom icons but I've replied there.
