Dropbox Sync missing

Upon upgrading to 1P4 it seemed to find and sync with my iCloud account with little or no effort. I was previously syncing via Dropbox but that option seems to have gone from preferences and I notice my Dropbox stored key chain is no longer up to date.

Does this mean my Dropbox sync is now obsolete and iCloud is the only way? If so how does this affect 1Password Anywhere? Does it now work via iCloud or is it bye bye? Very handy feature. Never really use it but nice to know it's there in an emergency.

    No, Dropbox is still supported.

I don't use iCloud syncing but if I an not mistake there is a button in the 1Password preferences for changing the sync method.

As to the keychain issue being out of sync, is this new or are you referring to since you upgraded to 1Password 4 ?

Thanks. I have found it now by disabling syncing. Not exactly intuitive. Obviously my Dropbox stopped Syncing when iCloud started. At least I now have the choice but if I was to choose to stick with iCloud does 1Password Anywhere work with it?

This was my experience too - Dropbox sync was disabled and iCloud enabled with the upgrade to 1P4 and I didn't realise until I noticed there was no activity on Dropbox when I made some changes in 1Password. Now I'm wondering which sync method to go with.

    Hi guys,

When you open 1Password 4 for the first time, did it ask for your master password only or did it tell you that it found your data on iCloud and if you'd like to use it?

1Password will use iCloud if it can't find anything in Dropbox and if it can on iCloud. It is supposed to ask you if you want to use iCloud's data.

Not sure I can remember to be honest. I will be upgrading on my second Mac later today so will keep a close eye on the process and let you know. One thing i have noticed is that Dropbox sync seems to be taking a lot longer – when I look at the settings on my iPhone it seems to be a perpetual progress bar.

When I first upgraded to 1Password 4 I don't recall a prompt for the sync method but when I just installed it on a second Mac there was a prompt so I chose iCloud this time as that's what my phone and main computer are now syncing with. With this second Mac I now I'm stuck with the message that states 1Password found existing data in iCloud. It will be merged with your current vault. The progress wheel just goes on forever and nothing happens. I think I'll just have to switch everything back to dropbox.

Just upgraded my second mac and there was no prompt. Went straight to dropbox sync. Problem is the majority of my notes are empty. Some VERY important info. HELP!!!!!!

  • Hi guys,

    @RDH,

That's normal, it'll be longer than iCloud because of the conversion process between the older 1Password 3 agilekeychain format and the newer 1Password data structure. Future updates will bring a newer format support for Dropbox sync.

Problem is the majority of my notes are empty. Some VERY important info. HELP!!!!!!

Are you looking in the main 1Password app or 1Password mini? 1Password mini does not support notes nor Secure Notes at the moment, the notes will show up in the main 1Password app. Can you confirm this?

iCloud is actually much faster than Dropbox and for majority of folks, it's been a smooth process. I'd recommend letting us figure this out for you.

It will be merged with your current vault.

That's not normal. There shouldn't be any merging at all going on, this only occurs if you have two entirely different set of iCloud data

Just to be clear, iPhone and the first Mac is syncing fine with iCloud, just not the second Mac? Can you try rebooting your second Mac, open 1Password again, does it let you sync with iCloud now without any issues?

I have a similar issue. I just upgraded to Mavericks and when I reinstalled 1Password 4, I hadn't yet installed DropBox, so it used iCloud. I'd prefer to sync to both (as the iOS versions appear to). I use the Windows version of 1Password on my work laptop, so iCloud is out for that.

On a practical level, it probably doesn't really matter, because the iOS versions will sync to both, so presumably any changes I make on my Mac will propagate to them by iCloud and will then be synced to DropBox, right? But I'd still prefer if it would sync to both simultaneously. iCloud is definitely faster, but would leave my Windows laptop at work out in the cold.

    Hi @QuantumDotter,

I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to you here but we have been a bit overwhelmed since the launch of 1Password 4 for Mac. We're all working hard and putting in extra hours to get back to our usual snappy responses and we really appreciate your patience.

Although the iOS apps currently support multiple syncing formats, we have seen users experiencing difficulty when enabling more than one sync solution at a time, so for now we are recommending that you select the sync option that works the best for you, and stick with that. In your case, because you use 1Password for Windows, Dropbox is probably your best option.
