Failed to unlock. Cannot load keychain profile.

I recently updated to version 4 from the Mac App Store. My data is stored in Dropbox. After choosing my password file location, the dialog indicates the file was found and prompts for the password. When I enter the master password, I get a dialog box indicating "Failed to unlock. Cannot load keychain profile."

I have tried logging out and back in and rebooting. I also tried making a completely local copy of the password file and choosing that the file is located on my computer instead of in Dropbox. I get the same error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi @thew2,

Can you tell me where your Dropbox folder is on your local drive and what the name of your 1Password data file is? Also, what's the relative path to that data file within the Dropbox folder.

    Thanks!

My Dropbox folder is in my user's home folder, and the data file is in Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain. Is that the information you were looking for?

Thanks for the help - great product.

I wanted to follow up on this. I tried re-installing version 4 from the MAS, and that didn't do anything. I finally went to my iOS version and turned on iCloud syncing, then restarted 1P4 on my Mac. It recognized the iCloud sync, and allowed me to get in. Then I turned off iCloud syncing on both iOS and 1P4, and turned on Dropbox syncing. Now it seems to be working.

Not sure what caused the original problem, but this is a workaround, at least if you have an iOS version.

I'm glad you found a workaround for this, @thew2. Like everyone else, we had to wait for the actual MAS release to discover certain issues (and now resolve them as quickly as possible) that didn't appear during both internal and external non-MAS beta testing. No one has ever been totally prepared for reality. :)

I got exactly the same error. Didn't realize that I could switch over to iCloud - did it, and it fixed the issue.

  • Hi @JoeData,

Thanks for letting us know! I'm glad it is working properly now. We're working on more updates soon to fix the remaining sandboxing issues with Dropbox.
