1Password 4 helper not closing after password fill

I upgraded to 1Password 4, the update itself looks great, but I'm experiencing two issues:

1) When using the CMD-\ shortcut in Chrome, it sometimes does not automatically fill in the login. When I right-click on the input element of the login form and select to fill it, it does work.

2) If the autofill with CMD-\ as mentiond in 1) does work in one try, the helper menu does not fold back, and keeps focus. This is very annoying. A colleague does not have this experience, as his dropdown menu folds back like expected.

Do you have a suggestion for this?

Hi, @wouterinho. I'm sorry you're having these issues using the 1P4 extension with Chrome.

Is the intermittent form filling reproducible with any specific site(s) or does it seem to happen randomly? When you "right-click on the input element of the login form and select to fill it" what exactly are you selecting to fill it?

By "helper menu does not fold back", do you mean the 1P4 extension window opens when typing Command-\ and stays open after form filling? Does that happen even if there's only a single Login item for the site? In that case using Safari, I have noticed the extension window briefly open/close during form filling after typing Command-\ but only rarely and it's never remained open. Sounds like that's what's happening for you in Chrome except the extension window always stays open.

Does that also happen if you click the 1P "key" icon in Chrome's toolbar?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extension? And have you restarted your system since upgrading and having these problems? If not, I'd give both a try.

Is Chrome installed in the system /Applications folder? If not, please try moving it there; 1P4 can have issues when it's installed elsewhere.

Which versions of 1P4 (MAS or Agile Online Store), Extension, Chrome, and OS X are you running?

If you haven't resolved this yet I promise not to ask so many questions if I'm helping you again. :)

    Thanks for the reply @oversaul.

    1) I select the "1Password" option when right-clicking on the login text field of the form, select the right password entry and it autofills/logs in no problem.

    2) See screenshot below. It happens even when there is a single login. I have tested in Safari, and there it works like a charm; no unfolded menu.

    3) No, it does not happen when clicking the 1P key icon (in the browser next to the URL bar).

    4) I have restarted and uninstalled/reinstalled.

    5) Chrome is installed in /Applications

    6) Chrome extension version: 4.0.1.99, 1Password app version: Version 4.0.2 (402002), OS X: 10.8.5, Chrome: 30.0.1599.69

    I too am experiencing this: OS X 10.8.5, Chrome 30.0.1599.69, 1P4 4.0.2 (402002), 1P4 Chrome Ext 4.0.1.99.

Earlier for example I used Cmd+\ on Amazon's website. The 1P4 pop-over appeared and the 'Amazon' login was the first and only item in the list. No auto-fill occurred, and instead the 1P4 pop-over remained open.

I selected the 'Amazon' entry manually and the pop-over closed. No auto-fill. I tried Cmd+\ for a second time (without refreshing or anything) and it immediately auto-filled and submitted.

Update: I think it has something to do with me using different profiles. I just uninstalled the extension again and re-installed it for my main profile. When using the command and only running one profile, it works the way it should. When opening another profile, it seems to go like I described above. Perhaps you can now reproduce it?

Any idea on this @oversaul? It is affecting my (until now good) 1P experience.

  • Hi @wouterinho,

There are some weird issues that we're investigating right now related to the multiple profiles. For some reasons, the extension is getting the call in the wrong profile. If I open two profiles, and open the same pages in both profiles, I can CMD+\ in profile 2 only to see the page in profile 1 get filled.

It might be the cause behind your issues as well. It is in our bug tracker as we speak and we'll find a workaround as soon as we can figure this out.

    Hi, @jstephenson.

Is your autofill issue when using the 1P4 extension with multiple profiles in Chrome? I don't have any additional information for you about that issue right now.

It is yes, I have a multiple profile setup.

    That is a shame.
