Vaults / 1Password File Switching

Hi,
I;ve been using 1Password for a few years now. (Just saw my saved software record in 1Password, and it's been since 2009!) Love it. I converted my wife to 1Password as well. She has a file in a shared Dropbox folder as do I. I can see her file, and at least on my iMac, would love to be able to open both of our files to do maintenance, help organize her data, etc. I don't see any way to do that.

Appreciate your help, if it's not currently possible, perhaps this would be a feature to incorporate in a future version.
Thanks,
Scott

    Nothing?

  • Hi @stsanford,

Sorry about not responding sooner, we're working through a huge backlog created by the new 1Password 4's release.

In your case, you can certainly do that with multiple vaults. Basically, each vault can be its own file configured to sync via Dropbox. It'll follow this syntax: (vault name).agilekeychain. Right now, the only issue is that the iOS app does not yet support multiple vaults, so you shouldn't enable Dropbox sync for the secondary vaults until we release an update with this support.

If it is just between Macs, all you have to do is to double-click on your wife's data file in the Dropbox folder, and 1Password should prompt about creating a new vault based on that file. Make sure you rename it to reflect it's your wife vault. After that, 1Password will keep syncing with that file as you make changes to it and your wife's 1Password will pick it up.

If she wants your data file, she can do the same process here.

Hi MikeT. Thanks so much for your thorough response. I get it, and will patiently await the update for iOS which understands the new format and vaults. I can't wait! Also, I hope it (and the Windows version) supports the new multiple website fields!

  • Hi @stsanford,

The iOS app already do understand the multiple URL fields. The 1Password 4 for Windows is in heavy development right now, and it should match the parity of the Mac app as well.

Awesome! Looking forward to the Windows version catching up. Thanks so much again for a great product.

  • You're welcome! We can't wait to show it off. :)
