missing version numbering for extensions
Hi,
on my Mac I have the browser extension 4.0.0. Earlier I saw the version numbers of the stable and the beta version. Now there is only a "big green button". But HOW do I know there is e.g. a NEW BETA EXTENSION when I do NOT see the version number?
I also realized that the URL ALWAYS is https://agilebits.com/browsers/download/safari?beta=false and it makes no difference if I press this button with or without the ladybug ... bug or feature?
thanks for answers

Hi, @golfsierra.
Where exactly did you see those stable/beta 1P4 browser extension version numbers?
The intention is that after initially installing an extension (stable or beta) it'll be updated (automatically or manually) using the browser's mechanism. If you use stable you only see/get stable; if beta only beta. You can switch from one to the other by reinstalling. Which specific version it is normally doesn't matter (except during troubleshooting); you're just getting the latest of either.
About the URL issue, last month I mentioned that:
The "ladybug option" currently doesn't toggle the URL query string between ?beta=false and ?beta=true even though the ladybug (dis)appears on the different Install buttons, preventing accidentally downloading/installing a beta that's older than the current non-beta.
Although my theory about it may be wrong, now that false/true toggling in the URL does work for me on the 1Password Extension page in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. I'm not sure why yet, or why it's different for you.

Hi, @sjk,
well, prior to the release of the "official" version during beta-phase the version (at least of the betas) was visible in the fields where you could download the versions for the different browsers as soon as you switched on the "beta-mode"
Now with the new layout of the download-site this information is gone.
As the update of the beta extensions did not work always correctly for me I often compared the installed beta-version with the available version and there it was easier for me to SEE which version is actual (e.g. 4.0.1b1 now)
I also checked the beta-on/beta-off again and now as there IS a newer beta-version the URL changes as it should ...greetings

Thanks for the explanation, @golfsierra. I think it's a good idea that the version number for the beta extension currently available for download be displayed when enabling a beta download to better help you choose whether or not you want it. Does that sound right? :)

@sjk: yes, that sounds right. I really would like to SEE which version is the actual. For Beta AND for stable ...

Okay, @golfsierra. I'll file a suggestion to have stable/beta browser extension version numbers displayed on the download page.
