MAS upgrade to v4 completely unusable

I have been using 1password for quite some time. I paid a lot of money for it (MAS purchase + ipad app) so feel quite invested.

I foolishly upgraded to v4 based on the "positive" reviews. I had been using the icloud sync on ipad/iphone successfully - so thought nothing could go wrong. I upgraded and turn on icloud sync on my mac. Immediately all my data was deleted. Every password, every profile - all gone. After a few hours of scrambling - I was able to retrieve a backup and get some subset of my data back (I have no idea how much is missing, but I know some is gone irretrievably).

Since the upgrade, the browser plugins have stopped working. I've tried all the solutions that I could find on this forum. All to no avail. Every browser, not working. I use the alfred integration - that doesn't work either.

I tried contacting support - and just got back an automated message.

Its too bad that this release was pushed out to the MAS without appropriate testing.

I agree! I was having no problem with v3.8.21. I haven't lost any passwords, that I'm aware of, but the automatic login works haphazardly but mostly doesn't work.

I don't agree with the portion of not sufficiently tested (other than the apple portion) :( 90 some odd betas and alphas before that. We went thru a lot. But the Apple portion is problematic due to sandboxing. I am unpaid , non staff so I have no vested interest in promoting the release as being overly great etc. I do think it was released as best as we could make it. I am even running Mavericks and I think most of the issues folks are seeing are just that sandboxing issues based upon my reading the posts.

Personal opinion. Its probably one of the main reasons I went from direct developer purchasing to Mac App Store when it debuted and now I am back to direct purchasing as the Mac App Store just doesn't fit well with my purchase, update strategy. I like the unified experience but for me I have to stick with direct purchasing. I own both copies. Mac App Store and Direct. I like a lot of you also purchased 1Password 3 way back on the Mac App Store debut and therefore got a free upgrade.

    < snip > removed erroneous portion many thanks @danco < snip >

As to alfred you need to enable the 3rd party app access in the 1Password preferences or it will not work.

The app doesn't use the same browser extension that v3 did you will need to uninstall them and reinstall the new versions.

If the above is true - and I am not suggesting for a moment that it isn't - then why was there no health warning on the AGB site? The MAS upgrade has resulted in a lot of problems - particularly, the fact that Open and Fill doesn't always work as it should. When can we expected an updated version of 1PW4 on the MAS store that addresses the issues identified in this forum?

Re the App Store and beta testing. thightower (and Agile staff) say that App Store programs can't be beta tested.

People on Usenet and in various forums have been making remarks such as the following.

"Mac App Store apps can easily be beta tested. You only need to provision the beta testers using the UDID of their Macs, much like you do for iOS apps."

I would certainly trust Agile on this more than other people. But some further explanation would be welcome, if only so that I can respond to those criticisms in forums that I am on.

I suspect the contradiction between the two statements is resolved by UDID allowing for some kinds of testing, but not complete testing, but would like to know more.

If that is true its news to me. Maybe I was asleep at the wheel as I haven't been looking for a change.

Edit : Well SON OF A $%^&* Seems I was asleep at the wheel. I got off my duff and did a quick google search and found lots to subject matter. Since I don't distribute apps on my own I may not have ever noticed this. Many thanks @danco .

All I am gonna say is when did that change. * :-? Don't answer this as its been a while, I am sadly sorry to say. Oh well since this is a hobby I am allow a few fubar's as its not a full time job or anything like that.

Edit 2 : Found the info on www.imore.com and I trust them pretty well.

    Thanks for the ideas thightower...

Yeah - I enabled this, it still doesn't work

Correct. I upgraded all browsers and extensions. Uninstalled rebooted, all the tricks that I could find in these forums.

I still have a computer with completely unusable 1password that I paid 50 bucks for. I'm in the software industry and if we released an update that lost data and was completely unusable our engineers would not be sleeping until the problem was fixed. I still haven't even received a reply from support. Terrible customer service.

Hello guys... How in the world is it possible that there are allmost no crititical reviews for this product in the Appstore... ?? 8-|

Because the negative reviews are not being published? I know my frank review of how the app doesn't work has been hidden from view.

For me its been nearly a week of not having the application work. I still have not had a single reply from support. I'm going to talk to apple and see if they can refund me.

I posted a review on MAS which praised the app but gave a gentle warning to wait for the next update...it has not been published.

I wrote a critical review a week ago and it has yet to be published.

    Hi guys,

We're working on finding different ways to beta test the sandboxing. One of which is to replicate the sandboxing in the betas of the website version.

We're not sure what's going on with the reviews (it's not just negative reviews, folks are telling us their positive reviews aren't showing up either), only Apple can controls it and we certainly don't ask for anything to be pulled back since you can see them showing up for our iOS apps.

We're working our hardest to catch up to everybody's emails.

@Steve_Harper, I looked up your email, Chris replied to you on the 15th, did you ever get it? Can you check the spam folder?

Can you review this troubleshooting article with the extension not filling and see if you can narrow it down for us?

I suspect the contradiction between the two statements is resolved by UDID allowing for some kinds of testing, but not complete testing, but would like to know more.

The provisioning profile is limited to 100 Macs (to test sync between two Macs, two slots are already taken up, so that's down to 50 folks ). There's not enough spots left for external beta testers and we need a large testing coverage as we had 25K testers test our web site version.

We're investigating to find a way to expand it or find a different way to test this. Right now, there's not much we can do given all of the restrictions placed on this. If we could replicate the sandboxing in the website version, that'd allow us to test it with 25K folks and find more of these bugs.
