Long Time Splash ID user Considering Switch to 1Password but import options look weak

I am a long time user of Splash ID (since Palm days), but now I am considering switching to 1Password. I have downloaded 1Password4 and I am evaluating it; however, I do not see very much in the way of import options. I only see a proprietary 1password .PIF file. Would would be great is a way to import Splash ID .VID files (unencrypted). Is there a way to import data? Right now, the only option I see is manually entering my data which is a big negative when it comes to evaluating 1Password.

A similar question here received advice to install 1Password 3 and use it to import your SplashID data. Then 1Password 4 can use that database. Apparently the import routines for version 4 haven't been completed yet, although AgileBits says they are working on them.

I moved from SplashID to 1Password 3 about six or eight months ago. I ended up entering all my data manually because there isn't any way for a generic importer to deal with all the custom categories and fields I had created over the years. It was worth the effort to me, but it was a source of inertia for a long time that kept me from making the switch. If you have a fairly generic SplashID data set, you should be able to import it without much trouble.

Thanks for the tip. I will look for a 1Password3 version and see if I can convert my data. I did not create many custom fields in my original SplashID file, so I hope this will go easily

  • Hi @john08970,

How is it going so far? We added the SplashID import support in the latest versions, you can go to the File Menu > Import, and select the CSV file from your SplashID app.
