How to share entire vaults?

Hello,

I have a Personal Vault and a Professional Vault - in a folder named 1Password in DropBox.

If I share that 1Password folder in dropbox with co-workers, they get both my vaults. Ok they won't have the password of the personal one - but still I would like to only share the Professional one.

What is the correct way to share an entire vault with other people?

Thanks in advance to anyone helping with this. Best regards,

Cedric

I understand that now the main 1password file is not longer stored primarily in DropBox - but a copy is created there for synching purposes. The original data is stored in one of the Library/etc,etc folders on the mac... with 1Password 3, the main file (package) was stored in dropbox, right ?

But still the question remains - how do I share an entire vault?

Individual vault sync preferences and locations can be set separately, so just a guess, but I'd think you have two choices: 1) if you don't want to share the other vault with anyone or any other device, simply turn off sync for that vault; 2) if you want to sync both vaults to another device, etc. but not share one of them, store it in a different Dropbox folder that you don't share.

@oshloel has hit the nail on the head with the sharing route I personally took. Separate folders.

Create a new folder in Dropbox for each vault and share that folder which whom you wish to. From that folder they can add the appropriate vault to a copy of 1Password provided they know the master password.

*Please note that the iOS and other mobile apps cannot sync multiple vaults yet so as it stands now you can only have 1) 1Password vault synced to the mobile device. In my case I choose our family (primary) vault.

    I have :

1Password (folder) containing my personal keychain
1Password Ethan (folder) containing a separate keychain for my son. This folder is shared between me (my Dropbox account) and one of my eldest sons (his Dropbox account) This way he never sees or has access to my keychain. Its all working within Dropbox shared folders.

If at such time as I need things to change he cain gain access to my keychain thru a shared folder from my account (due to some unforeseeable illness etc)

  • Hi @cedrictineo,

Have Tommy and oshloel helped with your questions here? When you configure the Dropbox sync for one of the vaults, you can create a new folder in the Dropbox folder and then select that folder to have 1Password create a new vault in. After that, you can share that folder with your co-workers.
