Does 1P for Mac ALWAYS have to be running for WiFi Sync to work?

The WiFi Sync window says this:

"For your security, WiFi sync works only when this window is open and 1Password is unlocked."

Does this apply all the time? Or just when setting up WiFi sync? It seems a bit awkward for WiFi sync to always require 1P on the Mac to be running. Can't you use it to sync from one iOS device to another, for example?

It has to be running all the time. 1Password for the mac will indeed need to be launched and unlocked for the sync to occur.

You cannot do adhoc wifi sync, 1Password Mac is acting as the server.
*All this is from my memory as I haven't used wifi in forever.

*Also based upon forum commenter requesting Mac to Mac sync which would also equate to iOS to iOS sync. The team hasn't made any determinations on that AFAIK.

Yup, 1Pass needs to running and unlocked (Like before), but they for some reason added the requirement of having the 'WiFi Sync Window' be open as well while it's showing the sync key! The other annoyance with 4.x WiFi syncing is the fact that you need to tap through 3 dialogs on your iDevice in order for it to happen, can't just fire up the app like we used to.

    I REALLY don't understand that...

Any chance this process could be streamlined in future versions cause right now it's really clunky..

    Hi guys,

Think of 1Password 4.0 as the seed, a lot of things in 1Password 4 are mostly completed but there are some that we can definitely improve on and we'll be releasing a lot of updates in the future to do just that. 1Password 4.0 is just the beginning of a journey, there's going to be a lot of new stuff added over time, just like how 1Password 3.0 barely looks the same as 1Password 3.8.21 over the 3-4 years of development.

The Wi-Fi sync window is because we're still deciding how to integrate it in the sync preferences. For now, we're leaving it like this to give you guys the ability to use it. Over time, we'll integrate it deeper with a different design and who knows, we might actually come up with more features that some folks want. :)

The same is true for 1Password 4.3 for iOS update, it's just updated to include the option but we haven't yet finalize the design as how to make it even better.
