Syncing an iMac and an MacBook Air

I have !Password 4.0 on my iMac and MacBook Air and 1Password 4.3 on my iPad and iPhone.

I have successfully switched to syncing over WiFi between the iMac and the IPad/iPhone and I would like to get completely away from syncing using Dropbox or iCloud.

The question is, how can I sync 1Password 4 between my iMac and MacBook Air without using either Dropbox or iCloud>

Thanks for any help.

    See this thread and in particular my comment at #4 in the thread. In essence, you're not the only person who'd like to use wifi sync between OS X machines, and AgileBits is aware of that.

    Thanks, Stephen. Went there and added my voice to those interested in such a feature.

    BTW, I tried the WiFi sync between my iPhone and iMac yesterday. Worked fine.

    Today when I went to my iPhone > 1PWD > WiF Sync, hitting the Refresh List button produced nothing.

    If one wanted to switch to 100% WiFi syncing, does one actually have to jump through all the hoops that one had to the first time one synced? I.e., open 1PWD on the iMac, get the syncing number, copy it to the iPhone, etc., etc., to accomplish a sync? Or is it because I still have Dropbox switched to ON on my iPhone?

    Thanks.

    @BikerBob, you should not, I think, have two sync methods selected at the same time. Sync is an "either/or" sort of thing: only one method selected at any one time. The hoops you jump through the second time are fewer than the first because you shouldn't have a new secret to input on the iDevice.

    Thanks, Stephen. My Sync prefs window on the iPhone shows:
    iCloud = Off
    Dropbox = On
    File Sharing = Off

    That what you meant?

    @BikerBob, yes that's what I was referring to. My understanding is that only one of those three sync methods should be "on" at any one time (the same on your Mac, of course). I also believe that if you use wifi sync then all three should be off.

    Thanks very much Stephen.

  • Hi guys,

    @BikerBob, if you have a local sync tool that can copy data across Macs, you can use the Folder Sync in the 1Password Menu > Preferences > Sync to put a copy of your data file in the specific folder you configured to be synced between Macs. On the other Mac, just enable Folder Sync and select that said folder with the data file already sync'ed.

    Today when I went to my iPhone > 1PWD > WiF Sync, hitting the Refresh List button produced nothing.

    Make sure you open the Wi-Fi sync first on the Mac, by opening 1Password and go to the Window Menu > Wi-Fi sync. You do have to have that window open to initialize the sync.

    We're working on integrating it, so that it can be automated as soon as you open the app but for now, that's the one extra step you have to do on the Mac.

    Thank you, MIke. I saw on one Agilebit list or another that this feature was indeed coming to 1PWD, so I think that for the time being I will focus on updating the three Macs in our house to Maverick and our iPhones and iPad to 7.0.3.

  • Hi @BikerBob,

    You're welcome. Have fun with the updates! :)
