Attempted Upgrade To 4; Now How Do I Return To 1 Password 3?

Stoopid Me: I tried to upgrade to 1 Password 4 a couple of days before I entered the hospital for a hip replacement... Unfortunately, like a lot of other people I have run into problems, specifically upgrading the Safari extension. I have tried following the instructions but No Joy: I can't seem to locate the mythical + button. I don't see it when I click the Safari extension button; are the instructions referring to the + button on the keyboard? That doesn't work either...

I rely on 1Password multiple times each day and I don't have the time to fiddle around with a convoluted upgrade process, so I would like to get back to where I was before I installed version 4. I wouldn't mind if I could get the Safari extension upgraded but with the support backlog and all it looks like a Long Wait for help...

My 1Password data is saved in my Dropbox folder; as far as I can tell no changes have occurred since 10-4-13.

So I trashed 1Password 4 and reverted to 3.9.6. I have installed the latest Safari extension and the exclamation point icon no longer appears when I click the Safari extension button.

Am I good at this point or are there any other steps I need to take to ensure that 1Password is working correctly and that my data is safe?

Well, it appears that the exclamation point is back but I cannot figure out what is causing the it to appear; here is the trouble-shooting report:

  • Hi @MrMojoMan,

You're using the 1Password 3 extension which is not compatible with 1Password 4. You need to open Safari, go to the Safari Menu > Preferences > Extensions and remove 1Password there.

After that, open the main 1Password app, and go to the 1Password Menu > Install Browser Extension. Follow the instructions that opens up and it should install the 1Password 4 extension for you.
