Shared vault not syncing to second Mac

I have upgraded to 1Password 4 and like it quite a bit. I created a second vault which I shared with a colleague via Dropbox and that's working fine on my primary machine.

The problem is that my secondary vault is not syncing to my MacBook Air (aka MBA), which I use on site at clients. I've confirmed my primary vault is syncing to my MBA via Dropbox. I don't understand how to get the secondary vault on my MBA. I hope somebody can help me with this as that would be really convenient.

@thesfmacman Have you seen this help document?

    Vault Sharing

Yes, but it talks about sharing the file with another person, not on a second machine which you own. Do I have to go through that process on a Mac that is mine? 1P doesn't know that I own that secondary vault? It treats my Mac as if I'm a downstream user?

Yes, you have to add the separate vault on the other Mac. Each vault that you create will have it's own sync settings. Double click the new vault on your MBA, enter the password, and you should be good to go.

I've answered my own question: you have to add the secondary vault to your system as if you were a downstream user.

This is not obvious in the documentation and should be made more clear, in my opinion. It would save some confusion to say something like: "Other users - as well as other machines you own on which you want the secondary vault available - must add the second vault this way".

I understand why this works this way (i.e. it is a separate agilekeychain file which 1P must be told to sync), but it's not unreasonable to have assumed it would sync to a Mac that you own.

That is understandable. They may update the document to be more machine specific instead of user specific.

I am glad to hear you got it figured out at least.

  • Hi guys,

That's a very good point. I'll pass it on to our docs team and ask for this inclusion.

Thank you for pointing this out!
