switching from 1Password4 (web store version) to 1Password4 (MAS version)

After using the 1Password4 version of the app available from the AgileBits web site, I've purchased the MAS version, and I'm a bit dismayed to find that none of my preferences have migrated, including the vaults.

Does anyone know of a way for me to restore the vaults that I sent up and other settings? I tried copying preferences to the appropriate container, but that didn't work.

There is an article here which covers switching from the beta version to the App Store version. Although it's not exactly what you asked it may help, because the beta version was not sandboxed (just as the AgileBits' store version is not sandboxed).

  • Hi @odysseus,

The MAS version does not have entitlement to access the Preferences folder and nor should it. We do not like migrating settings as it can cause issues down the line with the improper configuration, so it should only pick up the data file and nothing else.

Can you tell me if you ever set up the sync with the website version of 1Password and if not, did you ever tell 1Password 4 for MAS to pick up the data file from your default 1Password 4 folder in ~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/Data ?

I did set up sync with the website version -- via Dropbox. I had set up 2 vaults as well -- but only the primary vault was synced. After switching to the MAS version, the primary vault was read, but the "archive" vault was not. I was able to switch back to the website version of 1Password to set up the "archive" vault to sync, so now there's an Archive.agilekeychain file in ~/Dropbox/Backup. Is there a way for me to create that "Archive" vault in the MAS version of 1Password4 and have it import that Archive.agilekeychain file?

  • Hi @odyssus,

First, make a copy of the Archive.agilekeychain to your desktop.

Then, remove the website version you have. After that, open the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you can create a new vault called Archive, configure the vault to sync with Dropbox but this time, select that Backup folder that contains the Archive.agilekeychain file. It should say that it'll merge the vault, continue and you should then see your data come in from Dropbox.
