Transferring custom fields from 1Password 3 to 1Password 4

Hi,

I notice that 1Password 4 puts the custom fields created in 1Password 3 into a pop up window called "Show web form details".

Can I set 1Password 4 to automatically create custom labels for all the custom fields created in 1Password 3? This seems to make better sense than put all that data into a pop up window.

Thanks,
Ken

  • Hi @kenchen,

Just to be clear, 1Password 3 didn't exactly have custom fields like as it exists in 1Password 4. Those fields you are referring in 1Password 3 are the web-form fields. Those are the fields that saved from the 1Password's browser extension when you ask it to auto-save a Login item. If you add more fields there, it gets imported as such in 1Password 4.

Creating custom fields in 1Password 4 will not get picked by 1Password 3, it won't read it as it is a different field structure.

    Hi Mike,

Ah ok, I guess I'm using the web-form fields in Version 3 in a way you did not intend them to be used. I was using them to hold my custom data, not to hold data sent from the browser. I see this "feature" has been fixed in Version 4 as the web-form fields are not editable anymore.

Looks like I'll have to transfer the custom data I put into the web-form fields in Version 3 to the custom fields in Version 4 by hand. If there's an easier way to do this, please let me know.

    Thanks for your reply.

  • Hi Ken,

Sadly, there isn't an easier way to do that. If you have a lot of those custom data, I'd suggest waiting until we release an update to implement the custom field types. With the custom field types, you can set a specific field to something like password, which mean it'll be concealed. There'll be options for website, email, and text types as well. I thought if you want to wait, you'd save a lot of time as you work on moving those out of the web form details and setting the type on the fly.

As for the editable web form fields, actually, we do plan to find a way to make the web form fields editable as it is an important tool to fix certain issues with filling on some sites.
