WiFi Syncing Problem

I opened 1Password 4 on my iMac, clicked menu "Window", clicked "Wi-Fi Sync", and the popup came up with the secret code.

I then opened 1Password 4 on my iPhone 5S, clicked "Wi-Fi Sync", then clicked "Sync"

It says "Started Sync", but then it runs about 30-seconds and I get this popup message
Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=60 "The operation couldn't be completed. Operation timed out"

Any ideas what is going on? It was working yesterday on Wi-Fi sync

    I am going to go out on a limb here and say this is related to all the other syncing issues in the current version of 1Password.

    You can turn off the phone and turn it back on to complete a sync.

    This topic describes in more detail the issue I think you are experiencing. http://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/17178/1password-ios-4-3-sync-issues-identified-fix-submitted-to-apple

  • Hi @DoNotStaple,

    Do you have the Firewall turned on? If yes, is it set to block all incoming connections? If yes, then that's the issue. The iOS app needs to establish a connection to the Mac. If you uncheck block all incoming connections, OS X will prompt you if you want to allow 1Password to accept an incoming connection and if you say yes, it should then start syncing properly.

    Thanks, thigh tower. That worked to finish the sync one time. However, when I wifi sync again, it continues to go into the perpetual sync cycle again. I'll wait for a 1P update.

    @Mike T,
    Yes I have the firewall on but I have it set to allow incoming connections from Dropbox. But, I got Dropbox syncing working with my 1P file, so I don't need wifi sync anymore.

    I'm having the same issue. (1Password 4 Web Store version 4.0.2; iOS7 on iPhone running 1Password 4.3.)

    I understand that the app store version needs to be upgraded (the instructions here didn't work for me), but is there a workaround in the meantime?

    Can the 1Password "keychain"/"vault" file be added to the iOS app manually via iTunes (one-way sync)?

    And which file(s) from "~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/" is the correct one to use?

    Hi, @GDWzLCoeOuPOniGU.

    To confirm, are you having the same Wi-Fi syncing issue with the same symptoms that @DoNotStaple reported? And still with 4.3.1 for iOS that was just released? Have you tried restarting your iPhone to see if that would temporarily work around the problem if "force close 1P4 and relaunch 1P4" didn't help?

    It's possible to sync 1Password data from your Mac to iPhone using iTunes File Sharing. The correct data file on your Mac would be in Agile Keychain format, which can be created from 1P4 vault data (if necessary) using Folder Sync, and renamed to 1Password.agilekeychain (if necessary) before adding it to iTunes.

    @sjk, thanks for your help.

    Same problem as reported by OP (most recent iOS version as of this post, 1Password4 for Mac updated to 4.0.5 web-store version.

    The folder sync is working fine for my purposes, and should suffice until the WiFi sync issues are fixed (though this might end up being a better sync method for me than WiFi to begin with).

    Thanks for letting us know, @GDWzLCoeOuPOniGU. Sorry your trouble with Wi-Fi syncing isn't resolved but I'm glad you're satisfied with the alternative for now. There are still Wi-Fi sync bugs to be swatted, plus improvements.

    I have the same issue as @DoNotStaple. I use 1Password 4 Version 4.2.BETA-1 (420001) with OS X 10.9.1 and 1Password 4.3.2 on iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.4. When I disable firewall on the iMac wifi sync works well, otherwise not though incoming connections are allowd for both 1Password4 and the Miniapplication. Is there any help in the meantime?

    Hi @Orgelfreund,

    Please see this article for instructions on Configuring Proxy Settings. This will allow 1Password to communicate through the firewall. :)

    Thank you, @Megan. But as far as I understand the reffered articel helps with the communication between 1Password and the browser extension. My problem is the wifi sync between 1Password4 and the iOS application on my iPhone, which only works when the firewall is disabled.

    Hi, @Orgelfreund.

    Do you have is Block all incoming connections disabled under Security & Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options… and is 1Password mini configured to Allow incoming connections?

    Hi, @ sjk,
    yes, 1Password 4.app and 1password mini.app are allowed incoming connection. But there is only one entry für 1Password mini, the second entry is for 1Password 4.app. Block all incoming connections is disables of course.

    Hi, @Orgelfreund.

    We haven't fully determined why Wi-Fi syncing refuses to work in some cases without fully disabling the OS X Firewall. So we can help you find an alternative please email a Diagnostics Report from your Mac; instructions are here:

    Sending us your Diagnostics Report to help us help you!

    Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forum, but do include a link to this topic and your forum username in the email so we can "connect the dots" when we receive it. A quick comment here mentioning that you've sent it would also be helpful. Thanks in advance!
