1Password 4 Immediately Locks After Unlocking

New install from your website works OK for a while, then locks. It then immediately locks after unlocking. Went back to version 3 and used that for a week or so. Today I tried version 4.02 again with the same result. (Unchecked the lock after x minutes, thinking that might be the problem, but it isn't.)

10.8.5 on MBP.

Hi, @Carroll. I'm sorry you're having this overzealous locking issue with 1P4 4.0.2.

Could you please open Preferences > Security in the main 1P4 app, change/revert all the Auto-lock options, press Control-Command-Q (Quit 1Password and 1Password mini), then relaunch and see if there's any difference in (un)lock behavior? Also, which version of OS X are you running and have done a system restart since this trouble started? Thanks!

I've been testing 1Password 4 since shortly after you posted, and 1Password's behavior is a total mystery to me.

    Here's what I did:

Quit 1Password 4 (1Password mini was not enabled).
Removed 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword4-helper.plist from the Prefs folder to stop the immediate lock behavior.
    Restarted.
    Launched 1Password 4.
    Unchecked the four auto-lock boxes.
Used 1Password for about 15 minutes until it locked and I entered the unlock/immediately lock mode.
Repeated the procedure above twice and 1Password locked after about 8 minutes, then 10 minutes.
Repeated the procedure above again and 1Password quit this time (don't know how long this was).
Relaunched 1Password -- did nothing else -- and 1Password became stable.

I then added in stuff over a long period of time; first enabling 1Password mini, then checking the auto-save boxes, one at a time.
After checking the last box, and restarting, I was presented with a dialog to update to 4.05, which I did.
Should have waited on the update, because after a few minutes 1Password locked and I entered the unlock/immediately lock mode.
So I don't know if checking the final check box or performing the update caused 1Password to lock.

I then performed the procedure above many times over a long period of time until 1Password quit -- and after relaunching it's been stable since.

So 1Password mini is not enabled and none of the auto-lock boxes are checked.

I'm waiting on advice from you as to how to proceed.

    Running OS 10.8.5 on a five-year-old 17" MacBook Pro.

  • Carroll,

Something strange is happening there, I don't think we've seen this issue before.

If you would like to send us more information, could you please download the 1Password Troubleshooting tool and send us a Diagnostics Report? Here is the download link:

    http://cdn.agilebits.com/dist/1P/mac/util/1Password4Troubleshooting.zip

Once the download finishes, open 1Password4Troubleshooting.app from your downloads folder and on the first page you will see a Create Report button. Click that button and wait 20-30 seconds while it creates a new report. Once the report is created the troubleshooting report icon will appear. Please drag and drop that icon into a reply to this email.

Also, please add a link to this post in your message.

Once we get the report we'll take a look and try to figure out what is happening.

    Thanks!

For the benefit of future readers, the apparent reason for @Carroll's overzealous locking problem is that 1Password mini isn't/wasn't running and needs to be in order for Auto-lock options to be honored.
