Dropbox option

Hello, I'm running the 1Password 4 trial on OSX Mavericks and I'm trying to get Dropbox to work, as this is one of the make-or-break features to me. I have read extensively about it and my understanding is that there should be a button to set it up under Preferences > General but it's not displayed on my version. I tried to locate it elsewhere on the preferences panel without any success. Am I missing something? I haven't seen anyone else reporting this issue.

I saw a video that sets up Dropbox by simply putting the file on the Dropbox folder structure, however, I thought there was a internal conf to use the Dropbox API instead of the filesystem sync (I was assuming that would be to allow 1password to have feedback on the syncing, e.g. if the file can't be sync'ed for any reason).

Thanks in advance,
G

As to your first question, look under Preferences > Sync.

Hi Stephen, thanks for the answer, I looked there but I didn't realise I had to stop the syncing already in place. It's working now.

That said, it doesn't seem to be using the Dropbox API, just relies on the app to sync the dir. Though that solves the problem, I think it could be much more effective to do a sync natively in the app using the API and being able to get feedback on whether or not the file was syncing and troubleshooting.

Let's say the user runs out of dropbox quota and this particular file doesn't sync. Since it supposedly contains all your credentials to your online world, is not absurd to assume it could be your most important file on dropbox and merits a special warning when not syncing.

    Anyway, thanks again.

    Thats correct.

I would hazard a guess its on the future radar, but the team doesn't give time lines etc .

It's just not there for our own requirements, yet. We do talk with Dropbox every once in a while about what we'd like to see.

Right now, one of the disadvantages is that you cannot share certain folders with your family or coworkers when the app is linked up to the APIs. That's why we have full access to Dropbox folder, you can invite folks to the folders anywhere in your Dropbox but you cannot yet within the apps folder.

We do plan to switch over time, as we continue to work on major improvements to simplify the Dropbox sync experience along with our other sync methods. Right now, it's just not the right time to do Dropbox's Sync APIs.
