1Password Creating Lots of "No Active App" Passwords When I Generate Passwords
Hello,
I am using 1PW 4.0.9 downloaded from AgileBits. I have done a search and seen a couple of similar threads on this issue, but still seeing this problem.
I use the Google Chrome extension to generate passwords, and it seems that 1PW is generating tons of "No Active App" passwords and not saving them correctly at times. I'm not really sure how to say how to reproduce this, all I can do is post a screenshot of all of the abandoned passwords I have. The part that sucks about these passwords is that I have no idea what domain they were generated at, so I don't really have a way to correlate them back to where I tried to create them.
I ran the "Remove Redundant Passwords" clean-up process, but still have a lot of "No Active App" passwords.
Here is a screen shot of how many of these I'm seeing:
Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but I think at a minimum 1PW should at least put into a field the domain or URL of where the password was created?
I guess I'm unsure if this is a bug or not, but I do think not having a way to look-up the URL or domain where these passwords have been generated is an oversight. I have no idea how someone would be able to correlate these to anything unless a Login entry was created at the same time. If the domain was somehow saved with these entries I'd have a better idea if I am seeing a real bug or not.

I don't think so. I see it to and its rather annoying when trying to look back at stored items.

If I recall correctly it has already been logged as a bug by the staff.

Same here with the Firefox extension. Hopefully it would be fixed soon.

Hi @devnulled and @lpn,
@thightower is right, we've filed a report for this, and our developers are looking for a way to improve it. We really appreciate your patience as we work to make this feature better! :)

I too am in a similar situation. I generated passwords using the safari extension. When they were created originally they did have the proper domain name. It was only after some time (or an update maybe) they were changed. When I originally reset all of these password I decided to start working on issues in the security audit section. I was using the generate password feature in the browser extension and I remember having lots of trouble with the exercise. I specifically remember generating the password and then having the plugin fill the web form, then it wouldn't update the original record. So what I was having to do was go into the generated passwords section where it was showing the domain, I just updated, then copy the generated password into the original record and save it.
But any changes I seem to have made that day are gone. Im not sure what happened. I'm using local folder sync. I disabled it temporarily and then tried to restore from a backup around the time after I reset all of those passwords and did not correct the problem. Is there anything I can do to get this back?

Hi @Djfozzy,
I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to you here but we have been a bit overwhelmed since the launch of 1Password 4 for Mac. We're all working hard and putting in extra hours to get back to our usual snappy responses and we really appreciate your patience.
Unfortunately 1Password doesn't always recognize password change screens, so you will occasionally have to update your entries manually. But the good news is that when you use the 'Fill' button in the browser extension, by default it will also copy the password to your clipboard so that you can immediately update the entry in the even that 1Password does not ask you to save.
Now, I'm not quite sure what would have happened that caused your changes to not save properly. Could you please send us a Diagnostics Report?
Download the 1Password Troubleshooting utility and follow the instructions to generate the report.
Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@ agilebits .com
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

I've just discovered this issue as well. I'm using the Chrome browser plugin to generate passwords. I ran a search for "no active app" and found 17 passwords that were generated between Nov 7 and Dec 6. I have created several additional logins since Dec 6, and haven't had the problem. Is it possible this was a manifestation of one of the earlier versions and that it has already been fixed?
I clicked "Duplicates" under Security Audit, and was able to sort the "no active app" passwords next to the logins that were created from them. Since the passwords match the passwords on the login, I deleted all of the "no active app" passwords.
I hope this helps.

Hi, @teriross.
This issue with "No Active App" should be resolved in 4.1/4.1.1, along with this improvement:
- Duplicated generated passwords are now removed after saving or updating a login in the Save Login window.
Thanks for the tip on how you deleted your unnecessary generated Password items. Here's a topic with other suggestions for doing that:
I have way too many 1P generated passwords (and a question about how they work..)
