I keep getting a message saying my browser extension is out of date. I check it and it is the current version. How do I stop getting this message?

  • What version is it?

4.0.1. I just reinstalled it again. The version number did not change.

  • Strange, that is the current version. What browser are you using?

You don't by chance still have the version 3 extension installed as well, do you?

Latest version of Safari. No older extension installed.

  • I'm not really sure what would be causing this - might have to wait for someone from AgileBits to respond. It might be helpful to note what version of 1Password you are using as well.

The only other thing I can think of is if you happen to be using the beta version of 1Password, try installing the beta extension instead.

4.0.9 1Password. Seems to happen every time there's an update to 1Password, even though I'm using the current version of the extension.

    Hi Mr. K,

I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to you here but we have been a bit overwhelmed since the launch of 1Password 4 for Mac. We're all working hard and putting in extra hours to get back to our usual snappy responses and we really appreciate your patience.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the Safari extension. I'm not quite sure why this error keeps popping up for you. Could you take a screenshot of the error the next time you see it?

I also have a bit of an odd question: is Safari installed in the standard /Applications location?

Yes it is in the standard location. I will attach a screen shot next time.

    Hi, Mr. K.

I'm sorry for not getting back with you sooner and would now like to work with you in email to get this resolved as quickly as possible. To do that please send a Diagnostics Report from your Mac with this extension problem; instructions are here:

Sending us your Diagnostics Report to help us help you!

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forum, but do include a link to this topic in the email so we can "connect the dots" when we receive it. A quick comment here mentioning that you've sent it would also be helpful. Thank you!

It has happened on both of my Macs. I'll send the reports from both. Thanks. Hope you fix this soon, but know it's only a minor inconvenience.

I may have found the problem. I updated the extension for my user, but not for my wife's. I wrongly assumed updating the extension was system wide. I wish it was. I think somehow the message appeared on my user and it was related to the outdated extension on my wife's user. I will watch it and see what happens now.

Good find, Mr. K. Thanks for letting me know.

Web browser extensions do seem like a good candidate for system-wide installation. At least they're relatively small so any redundant installation doesn't consume much storage. Applications are one of the few things users install that are normally system-wide. Most everything else is under home folders, often difficult or impossible to install/share system-wide.

What is the down side of not using the extension? I don't use it now since I do everything browser related with 1Password mini.

1Password won't be able to fill your logins. Even though it may seem like you are using 1Password mini, the browser extension is what allows 1Password to auto fill your data into the browser. :)
