1Password not filling in passwords

Hello. I have been using 1Password without issue on an iMac and a Macbook Pro for around a year now. I recently upgraded to Mavericks on both systems. The iMac has had no issues. Today I hit the road for the first time since the upgrade and found to my chagrin that 1PWD doesn't work at all on the Macbook Pro. I had the exact error described in this thread, now closed: http://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/17418/safari-7-and-cannot-fill-item-in-null-also-chrome-firefox. After reading the thread I looked for the promised update, found and installed it. I now get a slightly different error "Cannot Fill Item in Web Browser. Web Browser is connected but its code signature could not be verified. Filling and other features are disabled until this configuration issue is resolved." I have tried reinstalling the browser extension, shutting down Sophos and shutting off the firewall. None of those steps had any effect. The bottom line is, at least for me is, the error is not handed with the update. It would really be nice to be able to sort this out quickly.

Have you tried quitting the browser and relaunching it?

I just began having the same issue with Chrome (Version 31.0.1650.57) yesterday. So far, the extension is still working in Safari for me. As far as I can tell, the problem started for me after another user on my Mac logged into their account (Mac account) and used the 1Password extension in Safari with their own credentials. After they logged out, my instance of Chrome that had not been closed and had had no issue with 1Password stopped working (code signature issue). I killed Chrome and restarted it, it didn't help.

Yes, I have quit the browser numerous times. Each time I deleted the extension and reinstalled I restarted the browser twice. I also have the same issue with Chrome. I even reinstalled 1PWD from scratch. Didn't help. GL

    Hi @GreenLantern and @gr37,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the 1Password extensions right now. Could you try reinstalling the extension again? This time I'd like you to re-start your system after deleting the extension. Let's try reinstalling the 1Password 4 browser extension for Chrome.

    Please follow these steps:

    • Open Chrome.
    • Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and hit return.
    • Click the trash can next to the 1Password 4 extension and remove it.
    • Restart your computer
    • Restart Chrome and visit the following page: https://agilebits.com/browsers/index.html
    • Click Download next to Chrome and confirm the installation.

Let me know if this helps!

Hello Megan, I followed your instructions to the letter but 1PWD still will not automatically fill in logins. I continue to get the error message described in my original posting. GL

    Hi guys,

I see your issue was resolved by uninstalling/reinstalling the 1P4 Chrome extension, @gr37.

I'm sorry that and other things haven't worked for you, @GreenLantern. And if 1Password fails to fill data troubleshooting tips have failed to help we'd like to work with you in email to get this fixed as quickly as possible. Please send a Diagnostics Report from your Mac that's having the problem; instructions are here:

Sending us your Diagnostics Report to help us help you!

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forum, but do include a link to this topic in the email so we can "connect the dots" when we receive it. Thank you!

I had a similar problem as greenLantern. 1p was working fine and since this morning all of a sudden the shortcut did not work anymore in safari/chrome/firefox with the identical error message. reboot didn't help, but I noticed your help document on adding 127.0.0.1 to the exception websites in sophos antivirus (which I have had installed for a long time already), which solved the problem.

    Hope that helps. Thanks

It looks like my problem is very similar to GreenLantern's. I don't have Sophos. Here is my situation:

I am using Safari. 1Password 4 displays the error message below when I attempt to log into any site by double-clicking the item in 1Password 4, or by selecting the login in the 1Password Safari extension:

    ====================
Cannot Fill Item In Web Browser

Web Browser is connected but its code signature could not be verified. Filling and other features are disabled until this configuration issue is resolved.

    [Cancel] [View Troubleshooting Guide]

I am using 1Password 4.0.9 with Mavericks. My 1Password4 Safari extension is installed and activated. The 1Password 3 Safari extension has been removed.

When I click on [Cancel] in the error message, the site I am attempting to visit is opened, but the ID and password are not entered. I have to enter them.

Thanks for the tip, @erik.hopmans. Sophos is referred to in the Anti-malware item 3 of 1Password fails to fill data, with a link to Configuring Sophos for more details.

Since Sophos isn't applicable in your case, @JHosk, have you checked if the other data filling troubleshooting tips are helpful? Also, have you tried restarting 1Password mini and/or your system?

Perhaps you can help me with this issue. Just upgraded to Mavericks and 1Password with Safari works fine however Chrome would not. I got the aforementioned error.

The workaround I used was to disable "Verify browser code signature". Once I did that I was able to use the Chrome extension again. I tried everything suggested in post #5 as well but to no avail.

I am running Sophos however I cannot add localhost to disable web protection (It's a work machine and the admins control the configuration). Given that Safari worked and Chrome didn't I thought perhaps Sophos isn't in play here.

EDIT: I take that back.. Safari exhibits the same issue.

    Thoughts?

    Hi David,

Without configuring (or disabling/removing) Sophos, 1Password browser extensions are unable to support filling/saving because they can't connect with 1Password mini. The alternative is to copy data from item details in 1Password mini and paste it into browsers.

Have you spoken with your admins about modifying your Sophos configuration to allow location connections? Do they have any specific concerns about doing it that we might be able to address?

Intersting... I disabled Verify browser code signature and it worked without a hitch. What about the verification mechanism could be interfering with Sophos?

I'll ask the Sophos admins if they can make the change but I'm pretty sure the answer will be "No". :)

    Thanks for the followup, David.

It's really Sophos interfering with the verification mechanism. :)

Under Known Issues in Browser Code Signature Validation:

    4. Firewalls and other security software can interfere with the web socket connection and can cause the verification process to fail. For example, Sophos Web Protection can cause issues and we have a detailed guide on how to configure Sophos to work with 1Password.

Disabling browser code signature validation doesn't help with other 1Password issues caused by Sophos preventing local connections.

Must say I got a chuckle reading "Sophos admins", like there's a small army of them preparing to collectively launch a "No" at your request for the configuration change. [-(

The 1Password app (v. 4.2.2), the browser extensions, and 1Password Mini have all stopped working, returning a "null vault" message. I do not use Sophos. This only started happening recently, and I think it may be related to the 4.2.2 update. I have to copy and paste from 1Password to log into web sites now. I just submitted a diagnostic report

    Hi @cozmot,

Thanks so much for providing those details here. You're right, a Diagnostic Report will shed some extra light on the situation. Since you've already sent one in to our team, we'll follow up directly via email so that we're not creating any confusion or duplicating efforts between here and there. :)
