Default location of 1Password.agilekeychain

Does post #2 in this thread help at all? Alternatively, if you're asking about the default location for Dropbox try posts #2 & 6 in this thread.

Hello Stephen, thanks for your quick answer - post #2 gave me the answer :-).
Is it okay to copy the folder "~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper" for a complete 1Password-Backup on a external medium, or do I also have to be aware of other files to add to the backup?
Then for example, making a complete new OS X installation, I will download 1Password from the MAS and copy the folder "2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper" into my ~/Library/Containers/...? Or how do I proceed with a new installation, that I will get all my 1Password-Files again?
Best regards, Roberty

@roberty, as I use the AgileBits store version of 1P4 rather than the Mac App Store version I'm not sure I can help as much with your latest questions, so you may want to wait for definitive replies to someone more expert than I. That said:
- No doubt the backups contain a complete set of data. I'm just not sure that they save your preferences. (By the way, if you go to 1Password4 > Preferences > Backup you can click on Show Files to reveal all the backup files in Finder, which will confirm where they are.)
- It's possible what you say would work with a completely new installation. Personally, before the new install, I'd use folder sync to create an up to date keychain file which you could then import into 1P4 in your new OS X installation.
Disclaimer: others may have better answers than mine! :)

Hello Stephen, thanks for the help.
Mhh, I can't understand your 2. statement - without a current Data Keychain ("1Password.agilekeychain") 1Password does not work?
Why do I not find this file on my computer (I found only the mentioned SQLite database) ...?Regards, Roberty

Hello JasperP, thank you very much for your help.
Now I understand why my Mac and my iPhone by WiFi Sync working properly (without "1Password.agilekeychain" ;-) ).
One question remains:
Then for example, making a complete new OS X installation, I will download 1Password from the MAS and copy the folder "2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper" into my ~/Library/Containers/..."? Or how do I proceed with a new installation, that I will get all my 1Password-Files on my Mac again?Regards, Roberty

@roberty I'm not 100% sure if that method would work. It very well could, but I'm not sure.
What I would try instead: Start syncing via folder sync (that will create an Agile Keychain). Then copy the newly created 1Password.agilekeychain file over to your new Mac. Simply double clicking the keychain will open it in 1Password with all your data present. Once it's copied, you can disable folder sync on your original Mac.

Hi, @roberty.
Here's a brief followup up to the already helpful hints from @Stephen_C and @JasperP:
If you've never run 1Password 4 on the your Mac then opening 1Password.agilekeychain or other keychain (e.g. by double-clicking) will simply launch 1P4 and start at the "Welcome to 1Password" screen. After clicking "Awecome! Let's Get Started" in the bottom right corner if no 1Password data is located you'll end up at the "First Time Users" screen, here:
Setting Up 1Password 4 for Mac
Selecting "I've used 1Password before" gets you to the "Where is your data?" choices, where you could select "This Mac" and be able to choose the 1Password.agilekeychain you'd copied from your other Mac, enter the Master Password to unlock, finish the "First-Run Configuration" setup steps, let data from the keychain finish populating the new primary 1P4 vault, and finally disable Folder Sync with the keychain.
If you've already run 1P4 on your new Mac and have a primary vault configured, then opening a keychain externally (e.g. by double-clicking) will offer you to "Create New Vault" from it and keep it in sync with Folder Sync. If you want to merge a keychain with an existing vault then opening it from the Folder choice under Preferences… > Sync will offer that option.
I hope that's also helpful. :)

Hallo sjk
Thank you very much.
Assuming that:
I buy next week a new Mac and install 1Password 4 by Mac App Store but I don't start it
I copy my existing 1P4 SQLite database (-/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits...) from the old mac to the new one.
Now I start 1P4 for the first time on the new mac.
Question: Do I have all my 1Password4 entries from my old mac?
Regards, Roberty

Greetings, @roberty.
The locations where 1Password 4 stores its data are:
Mac App Store version:
~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper
AgileBits store version:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4
If you copy that data from an old Mac to the same location on a new Mac then 1P4 will find it (all 1P4 items from the old Mac, to answer your #4 question) when run for the first time. Certain data is copied that might be both preferable to leave behind (e.g. caches, logs) and to keep (e.g. backups). Populating 1P4 vault data on a new system by syncing with data in 1Password keychains gives you a cleaner start, although you'd still want old data archived somewhere in case its needed.
If you only copy the 1P4 SQLite database then any attachment files stored in the same Data folder as that database would be lost.
Copying data from ~/Library/Containers between systems isn't generally recommended because of, for example, App Sandbox usage. If you run a sandboxed app on different systems for the first time and immediately quit it there can be differences in what's created under the ~/Library/Containers subfolder on each system. I'd personally rather not risk any of those differences mattering for apps to function properly so don't copy ~/Library/Containers subfolders between systems. It could matter in some cases with the 1P4 data container while not in others.
If you have other questions about this or anything else please don't hesitate to ask. :)

Hi, frank@harczuk.com.
There are instructions for restoring your entire system or individual files under Restoring data from Time Machine backups in this Apple support document:
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
To restore your 1Password data for the AgileBits store version of 1Password 4 you would specifically restore this folder:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4
You could also restore the /Applications/1Password 4.app application, or reinstall it after downloading from our website:
1Password 4, and other apps should all work normally after restoring your entire system.
