Questions about Syncing
Regarding syncing, I’m a bit confused. Currently I am syncing to a folder on my hard drive …/documents/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain. If I were to sync with iCloud, would the file remain on my hard drive, plus be in iCloud, plus be on any other computer that is syncing with that iCloud file? (I'm new to iCloud. Sorry.)
A further question: I am running a demo version downloaded from your site. I wish to purchase 1Password from the Apple Store (so I can use iCloud). Will this 1Password from Apple work with the datafile I currently use?
Thank you.

Hey @tomrehor,

1Password 4 stores its data locally in a SQLite database. If you choose to sync with iCloud, the data will also exist there in the Cloud Keychain format.
Folder syncing and Dropbox currently use the Agile Keychain format, but it is slowly being replaced with the Cloud Keychain format. So syncing with iCloud means that you will no longer have a 1Password.agilekeychain file, since it uses the new Cloud Keychain.
But your data is always stored locally as well, including regular automatic backups of your data.

Yes. You can easily switch to the Mac App Store if you'd like.
These instructions should help (please note that the link is talking about the beta version, but the same basic instructions apply for you).
Hope that helps! :)

You state: "If you choose to sync with iCloud, the data will also exist there in the Cloud Keychain format," and "But your data is always stored locally as well".
An email to me from Eva on Dec. 4 at 7:50am states: "Secondly, if you set your system to sync with iCloud, then your data file will live in iCloud. The system will no longer automatically sync with the file on your hard drive. If you want to keep a backup on your hard drive, you will need to do a manual backup."
Can you please clarify?
Thank you.

Hey @tomrehor,
I'm just a user like yourself, so normally if AgileBits told you something by email it's most likely correct. But I'm not really sure what Eva Schweber is meaning in that message. Maybe she's talking about something else? I'm pretty sure that what I'm telling you is correct. I'll tag the AgileBits forum admins here, @sjk and @Megan, so hopefully they can give you a definitive answer.
But here's some more info to further explain my original post:
1Password 4 always stores its data locally in a SQLite database, and always creates local backups of your data.
The local location of your 1Password data is:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/Data/
(AgileBits website version)~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Data/
(Mac App Store version)1Password 4 also creates automatic backups locally. If you go to 1Password > Preferences... in the menu bar then to the Backup tab, you can see your backups and click Show files if you would like to open then in Finder.
The local location of your 1Password backups is:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/Backups/
(AgileBits website version)~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Backups/
(Mac App Store version)The Agile Keychain and Cloud Keychain are only used for syncing purposes. So if you switch from folder syncing to iCloud syncing, the 1Password.agilekeychain file will no longer be used, and your data will sync through iCloud instead.
Location of the Cloud Keychain in iCloud:
~/Library/Mobile Documents/2BUA8C4S2C~com~agilebits~onepassword/
Mobile Documents is the iCloud folder. iCloud data for all apps is there.
But even with iCloud enabled (or any other sync method), all the local data I mentioned above will still be there. Basically, 1Password 4 deals with your data separately in two contexts, one format internally for the app/mini (stored locally) and a different format used for each sync method.

Hi @tomrehor,
I sincerely apologize for the confusion here. Eva is new to our team, and as you can imagine, there's a lot to learn ... In fact, I'm still learning a lot of these new features that we've introduced in 1Password 4. :)
@JasperP is correct here, and I really can't explain things much more clearly than he already has. Your data will always be stored locally, and then a copy will be made and stored in a different location (which location depends on the sync you are using) and both will be maintained while you are using the sync solution.
I hope this clears things up, but please let me know if you have any further questions!

Yes, that clears it up. Thank you.
