First master password not working. No data file to delete to start over.
I just purchased, created and verified a master password which now does not work.. I have no data file yet, so I can't delete it to attempt to start from scratch. How should I proceed?

Oh this is me too. I am trying to follow these instructions for "Starting over"
http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/Mac/en/KB/start-over.htmlHowever, the old vault keeps coming up. I can't start a new one.

@lostpassword You shouldn't need to unlock the vault to access the general preferences. Just open 1Password, then go to 1Password > Preferences > General in the menu bar. You should be able to uncheck the Always keep 1Password mini running option.

Yeah, i am dumb. I see now the preferences are the same!
OK, so for some reason -- because you held my hand through this -- it worked! I am now on the install step. yay. ok.

@lostpassword Yes, the key in the menu bar means it's still running. With 1Password open, try pressing keyboard shortcut Control + Command + Q to quit 1Password and mini, then reopen 1Password and see if the key is still there.

@lostpassword Also, do you have the AgileBits website version or Mac App Store version of 1Password installed? And do you, or have you ever had both installed?

@JasperP - thanks for your help. now i'm getting somewhere! do you know, if my other computer (secondary machine) has my old password (which I can remember) - can i sync that to dropbox? and then point my master computer to it? I have the Agile Bits version.

@JasperP Or can I restore from a backup on the other machine? (secondary machine which has the old/remembered password)

@lostpassword If your other computer still uses the old master password, you should be able to sync that keychain to your primary Mac using Dropbox. How do you currently sync the two machines?

@JasperP - well i didn't use it for very long. I got as far as installing it on the secondary machine and syncing it. it doesn't seem to have all my passwords tho, which I attribute to the fact that I obviously wasn't syncing OR backing up from my primary machine.
I had an experimental unencrypted backup, with a few passwords. That was possible to import. But I guess you can't just import the .1p4_zip files (at least i only tried once).
Lesson learned!

@JasperP 2nd thing I tried was copying the .1p4_zip file over to the primary backups folder. Shows up in the list. I got a message "Are you sure you want to restore this backup? Your existing data will be backed up first and then 1Password will exit. You will need to restart 1Password manually."...
When when I click to restore, nothing happened. Hmm...

@lostpassword Are you currently able to access your data in 1Password on either machine?

Well anyway! I totally hijacked Ethan's post! Thank you, @JasperP I am much better off than I was pretty much all week :D

@lostpassword You're welcome! Have you got everything sorted out now?
Ethan: I would recommend that you follow the Starting Over instructions posted above and see if that helps you. :)

Hi,
I've the same problem as @Ethan.I've just bought 1Password for Mac (and also for iPhone). I've lost my master password at the very first moment. Just after retyping the master password to begin with 1Password, I typed it to login and the password is not correct!!!! I cannot login.
I've read FAQs (http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/Mac/en/KB/start-over.html and followed the steps, but as I didn't even log in, I don´t have any archive on the library (containers, application support, etc.).
What can I do?
Thank you!!
