Secure Notes need some help in 1Password

Devoted 1Password user here on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Love it. That said, I think Secure Notes need some help.

In the iOS versions, we can mark Secure Notes as a Favorite, and see them in the Favorites panel, as we can in the Mac version. However, they do not show up in Favorites menu of 1Password Mini. Some of my Secure Notes are just as important to me as Logins, and I'd like to be able to get to them system-wide from Mini.

Also, Folders that contains only secure notes do not show up in Mini at all, although they do in iOS 1Password. Again, why? I have noticed that if I put any other kind of item (Login, etc.) into a folder that contains Secure Notes, that folder will show up in Mini. As I can see no rationale to omitting Secure Notes, nor having them behave the same in all parts of 1Password, I conclude this must be a bug.

Finally, a suggestion to the developers: In the Mac version, one can scroll a long Secure Note via a standard (more-or-less) scroll bar handle on the right side of the document. In the iOS versions, a scroll handle is not present. One can argue that simply using the iOS swipe up/down gesture takes care of scrolling, but for a long document, this is very laborious. DropBox has implemented a scroll handle for documents, and I'm hoping 1Password will adopt something similar.

Many thanks for reading.

Hi @dontpassmeup, welcome to the forums!

Secure Notes are not supposed to be displayed in 1Password mini, so that's why you don't see them appear in mini as a category, or under Favorites, etc. The basic reason is because 1Password mini was intended mostly as a quick way to copy and paste info from fields in Logins, Credit Cards, etc, but Secure Notes don't really have fields. But I will certainly let our developers know you'd like to be able to view Secure Notes from 1Password mini, as well as your suggestion for scroll handles in the iOS app. I'm sure others would like that as well!

Thanks for your feedback & suggestions!

Hi Drew. Thanks for your explanation. Still, if 1Password for Mac, iPhone and iPad display secure notes in the Favorites, then it seems only fitting they should appear in Mini as well. To me, any item stored in 1Password is one that someone is likely to want to easily access. In my case, one thing I do is access a financial account via a Login Favorite, get the information I want, then copy and paste it into a secure note that lists that account. Easy and clean. But when the notes appear elsewhere in a unified manner, and then do not appear in Mini, it's not only less useful, but not a consistent appearance.

If I may, I'd like to suggest one more feature I forgot earlier: it would be great to be able to rearrange the order of Folders and sub-Folders, so they appear in iOS or Mini they way I want them. Interestingly, Secure Notes can be rearranged, something most useful. Secure notes and not folders? Don't quite see that rationale.

Thanks very much for your reply and consideration on these things!

    Hi @dontpassmeup,

Thanks so much for sharing your opinion here. You're not the only one who misses seeing Notes in the Mini. As Drew mentions above, Mini was designed as a quick way to access the information that you might need to fill in a browser. Notes were originally excluded because a longer note would clutter up the interface. However, we are seeing many people who are using the Mini so frequently that they rarely open the main app. We are looking to find the right balance between simplicity and convenience in 1Password Mini, and your feedback is much appreciated. I'll be sure to pass along your request to re-order folders - this seems like it would be quite useful to me as well :)

Happy Christmas, and do let us know if you have any more suggestions!

You guys are the best!!! I've gotten so many people to purchase 1Password for their phones and Macs (and a couple of PCs), I feel like one of the team.
Good holidays to all at Agilebits!

Searching for information on the same questions that the OP had lead me to this thread. May I just add my vote for making Secure Notes (or some equivalent) available from 1Password mini. I note the original design intentions for the mini, but increasingly Secure Notes are required for many logins.

In the UK (where most of my accounts are) and probably in other countries many of the logins for banks, credit cards and other financial institutions are multi-step, instructed logins of the type that ask one of several questions, or "enter the first, third and penultimate characters of your password" (sometimes by clicking on an on-screen keypad) or even something like enter three characters from a two-dimensional grid that was sent by postal mail. At first I doubted that 1Password would be of any use to me because I have quite a few accounts like that, but when I tried it and discovered Secure Notes I became a convert and avid user. (And my wife, who despaired of my complicated gpg encripted files and shredding procedures, is greatly relieved to have a program that she finds easy to use.)

However, for probably at least half of my financial logins I end up opening 1Password mini from the browser just so I can then click on the gear and open the full program and get access to my secure note for that site. Not terribly onerous, but something that could be made a bit simpler.

Thanks for a great piece of software. BTW, I dealt with that grid-card login by simply scanning the card and attaching it to a secure note. Works like a charm and I don't have to dig out the card or have it with me when I travel.

    Hi @deoldphart,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write in to us with your user experience! I must say, you do make a good case for Secure Notes in Mini. In fact, I have good news for you! If you'll take a peek at our Release Notes, you might notice this little gem:

By popular request, 1Password mini now shows Secure Notes!

I hope this makes your life a whole lot easier ... we're here for you if you think of any other little improvements we might want to make! :)
