I have version Version 3.8.21 (build 32009) for Mac and IOS version 3.7.2 – and I'm happy with those. Less happy am I to discover that I probably don't have the latest versions and may have to purchase them again from Apple's app store? Am I right?

    Hey Alexander,

1Password 4 was a major release for both Mac and iOS, so they are paid upgrades from version 3. But if you're happy using 1Password 3, there's no need to upgrade.

But if you'd like to upgrade, here is some info:

For Mac: You can enter your 1Password 3 license key on the AgileBits web store to see your upgrade price (1P4 requires OS X 10.8 or later). You can also buy from the Mac App Store, but you can't get a special upgrade price there.

For iOS: You need to purchase 1Password 4 for iOS from the App Store. It's a universal app, and requires iOS 6+.

And good news, both apps are currently on sale! :D

One extra piece of information is that version 3.x for iOS is no longer compatible with Dropbox syncing because Dropbox changed their protocol and broke syncing with the earlier version of 1Password. But if you are happy with your current versions, this presumably isn't an issue in your case.

I'm thrilled with 1Password, I'm still trying to get my head around it but I'm quite disappointed that it cost me $50 and now I have to buy it for my iPhone? How does that work, do you get a free app if you bought it for your MAC or do I have to buy it again? Confused.
I just found the 1Password mini app for my iPhone for free, is this your app to sync with 1Password?

@cactus70, AgileBits decided that with versions for several platforms, it made more sense (for them and for users) to charger per platform rather than have one higher price that covered all platforms, so you do have to buy separately for the iPhone.

Alexander, your reference to version 3.8 suggests that you bought direct from AgileNits. In that case, you will have to pay if you want to upgrade.

Version 3.9 came from the App Store, and can be upgraded free to version 4. That is because AgileBits promised that when they first released the App Store version, expecting the upgrade to come much sooner than it did.

Both of you (and others), note that there is a sale on at present, check the Announcements forum.

  • Thanks, guys – very helpful, and a very merry Xmas to you!
